Foundational Call to the Kurdish Nation

KNZR – A Return to Origin:

    The Kurdish National Zagrosian Revival
“We are not beginning something new.
We are awakening something ancient.”

The Kurdish National Zagrosian Revival (KNZR) is not a party, not a program, and not an imported ideology. It is the return of a civilizational soul, Kurdistan reawakening to itself.

KNZR was not born in theory, but in truth

It rises from the sacred stones of Girê Mirazan , from the memory of the Gutians and Medes, from the forgotten bloodlines of the mountains.

It does not seek approval from the West, nor legitimacy from the East. It is rooted in a time before empires, before religions, before the Abrahamic horizon.

KNZR is not built on the models of democracy or the slogans of modern revolutions. It is not left or right. It is Zagrosian.

It is the Revival of a Nation that once gave fire to the world and must now reignite that fire to survive, to unify, and to lead.

Why KNZR? Why Now?

The Middle East is in collapse. Regimes rot from within. Old borders shake. Every nation scrambles for meaning, identity, and power.

And yet Kurds, the children of the oldest mountains, still beg at the doors of those who erased them. Still divide themselves between ideologies that are not their own. Still bleed for flags that were never written in their blood.

The Case for Rojhilat and the Rise of KNZR!

As the military confrontation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel intensifies, the people of Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) once again find themselves caught between hostile powers, none of which represent their will, identity, or future

For over a century, the Kurdish people of Rojhilat Kurdistani have endured forced assimilation, cultural erasure, economic deprivation, and political repression under the Iranian state. Now, as Tehran directs its military and propaganda machinery toward a broader regional war, Kurdish youth will be conscripted, Kurdish lands militarized, and Kurdish voices silenced, treated as cannon fodder for a system that has never accepted their existence.

Let us be absolutely clear: this is NOT our war. Kurds are not pawns in a struggle between two states seeking regional dominance. We are an ancient nation whose roots predate both. We are the descendants of the Zagros builders, of the Gutians, Lullubi, and Medes. Our homeland, Kurdistan, is not a battlefield to be traded, ignored, or burned.

It is in this urgent moment that Kurdish National Zagrosian Revival (KNZR) emerges not merely as a theory, but as a political necessity. KNZR offers a new paradigm: a return to Kurdish sovereignty, rooted in our Zagrosian heritage, guided by national unity, cultural revival, and historical justice.

While the Islamic Republic collapses under internal and external pressure, KNZR calls for a political awakening in Rojhilat Kurdistani, to reject both theocratic oppression and foreign entanglement, and to demand self-determination, dignity, and national rebirth.

The path forward is not with Tehran or Tel Aviv. The path forward is with Kurdistan, with RojhilatKurdistani, with the Zagrosian spirit that never surrendered.

The great women of Kurdistan

There is a land that is not only drawn on a map, but also written on fire for humanity.

A land older than the empire, older than the kings, even older than the first lines dug in stone.

This is the land of Kurdistan

Not just a nation, but a sacred force, a breath of creation and a living memory of our divine resources and our divine sow and eternal sentiments.

When the first fire was lit on the holy mountains of Zagroz, it was in Kurdistan.

The name and identity of our mountains are worthy. Zag-roz = the sun's sun, the sun that is in the dark and in our inner eyes and made us as humans.

When humans for the first time sang to the stars, drew their stories on rocks and gathered to honor the sky, it was in Kurdistan and those people were us
This is not a legend. This is the truth that the world has forgotten and denied, but Kurds should not forget.

Kurdistan is not just a geography, it is the birth place of civilizations, it is a sacred source from which the most original constructions, philosophy, religions, and tribes have come from.

Here our ancestors looked at the sky and collected the sacred rhythm. Temples like Grazan are designed not for festivity, but for memory, to send, to unite with the stars.

The sacred languages - wrinkles of hurricane, phrases, tiles, lollos, materials and methanes - are immortal. We live in Kurdish language.

Our music still beats the heartbeat of the mountains, our ceremonies reclaim the ancient blues of Zand, our dances explore the creation course taught by our parents for the first time 20 thousand years ago.

Kurdistan is not only a land, it is a living light.

A fire that builds, a culture that endures, a soul that refuses to be broken.

Empires came to burn us, bury us, erase us, but we were created from earth and flames and the earth thinks and flames rise.

Kurdistan is the place where God touched the land.

Where women first had Culture as a child, where men first told the sky truth, where people walked in balance with nature, and fire.

Being a Kurd is not only about being proud of this land.

Being a Kurd, carrying out the sacred duty of protecting our culture and the civilization of Zagroz.

Self protection when the world gets dark.

It's standing up when everything else falls.

This is why we say:

Now, the time has come not only to remember,
But to wake up with memories in our bones
And let's revive the fire of our forefathers in our hearts.
We must save our holy Kurdiish land..
Long live the glorious nation of Kurds
Long live our holy nation Kurdistan
Long live for the revival of the Kurdish nationalism.

The donkey who chose power
instead of loyalty and lost both!

In a valley where the sun rarely shows mercy, the donkeys live in fear, but walk in grace.

They had neither riches nor royal thrones, but they had each other.

There was a donkey amongst them that was impatient.

He was jealous of the lions who ruled the war. Their screams, their shadows, their glory, it attracted him.

One day, the lions came down, not to hunt, but to whisper.

The donkey was captured by the lions, but instead of eating it, they decided to raise it against its own species.

They said: “You are different”. "You are smarter, you deserve more."

And the donkey (Kurd) believed them.

He turned from his own kind and bowed down to the lions (Turkish Occupation Forces) who brainwashed his mind - not by inheritance, but by obedience and gifts.

A chair, a title, a taste of power.

In return, he gave them his people. He silenced the strong and chained the brave with chains and all the sheep who stood beside him one day, feeding the lions.

He was talking loudly, but his voice was not heard.

In time the lions get bored. The donkey is not a lion.

And the donkey who is now hated by his kind and ignored by his former friends, stands alone.

Just a broken monster in the shadow of the lions, a treasonous criminal without friends or throne.

Because those who replace loyalty with power, in the end, none of them will remain

For peace he burned his guns
but the Turkish invasion continues!

In the heart of Northern occupied Kurdistan, under the view of ancient mountains which have seen centuries of sacrifice, a Kurdish woman did what many could not. She put the gun down and burned it.

But, this was not surrender.

This was a step towards peace.

Presenting peace in a world that has denied peace for many generations.

Because of her weakness, she did not burn her gun.

"We were not born for war. We were forced to enter it for our own protection.

But we remain human in war, we still prefer peace.

The picture of her standing silently in front of the fire is more than a sign, it's a revolution.

In a world that is thirsty for the blood of Kurds, this act screamed louder than guns.

She talked about a nation that is not eager for greatness, but eager for glory. Not for fun, but for justice.

And yet, the invasion continues.

Till now, Turkish warplanes are flying over the Kurdish villages.

Political prisoners are still kept silent in rooms because of speaking in their language.

The corrupt leaders of the area are still selling the future of Kurds for foreign good.

Yet borders divide a nation that has never been broken in history.

She burned her gun. But the system that forced her to carry, still lives.

The system fears Kurds silence more than their bullets, because in silence speaks the truth.

The big lie reveals:

Kurds should be tortured to bring peace.

No, no, no, no.

This is the knocking of Kurds that prevented peace.

We say this very clearly:

Kurdistan is not a danger to the world, it is the heart of a civilization which has been denied long ago.

This land gave the world's first farmers, its first temples, its first liberals and now, silencing the first weapons of war against infinity war.

But until justice comes,

Until the Kurdish lands are free from occupation.

So that every child can speak Kurdish without fear.

Until no mother hides her daughter in a flag that the world does not recognize her.

We will not be silent.

This isn't the end of self-esteem.

This is the beginning of a new fire.

Kurdistan is burning not by war, but by truth.

Our fight is not for revenge - it is for justice.

The act of peace will not erase the centuries of injustice and persecution.

But it proves that we are still here.

We are still human.

We are still unbreakable and unbeatable.

The Kurdish soul will never surrender

Azdayi: the holy name of Kurdish identity
By: Kurzanin

Friday, 13th of Galawezh month, the year of Kurdish

Azdaayi is not only religion, but it is the memorial of a holy nation which is the hope of the Kurdish nation. A living revolution of the world's oldest beliefs transcended through fire, persecution, and silence. In the word "Azda", we hear something ancient and divine. "Az" means "I" or "self", and "da/dan" means "giving" or "making". Azda, “I am given,” or “I am made”, is a self-defence given by God. This is not a deal, it is a sacred oath.

Adults are the heritage of the Zagroz nations, horns, lolloys, tiles, those who walked before the climb of Babel or Akad on the holy mountains.

Much before any modern religion, they looked at the sun, moon, stars, and eternal fire as a source of divine wisdom.

The beauty of the ancient universe preserves, its symbols, like sunlight, angels of Tawos (Malak), and respecting natural occurrences, not strange, but from Kurds, and roots deep in our land, sky, and our struggle.

What separates the Kurds is the extreme protection of identity. For thousands of years, the Kurdish society has preserved its languages, ethnicity, and traditions despite enemies and occupier's attempts to eradicate them
They have survived massacre, bypassing religion, and cultural devastation. Why is it that? Because adversity is not only dependent on faith, but also depends on being. To be mature means to hold a memory that is older than time, a memory that cannot be occupied cannot be destroyed.

Among Kurdish culture, Azda represented a pillar of defense and continuity. It teaches Kurds that we don't need foreign religion to find the truth, we carry truth in our tongues, in our mountains, and in the fire inside us. Adventure is a reflection of the oldest Kurdish values: dignity, family, equality with nature, and self-awareness. It respects women (unlike Islam), respects the earth, and preserves the wisdom of society that is transmitted without a holy book but through the heart and soul. the voice and thousand years old memories.

Based on the level of the language, adversity strengthens the power of the Kurdish language as a sacred language.

Words like the day, God (God), I (me), woman (life/woman, abstract), are not just phrases, but are basic anthems and lyrics. This is why understanding the Azadi without Kurdish is impossible, and understanding the Kurdish language is impossible without being Azadi. Language and faith strengthen each other and maintain a living world that prevents Western and Eastern traditions.

Today, in a world full of cultural confusion and disruptions, slavery provides clarity and clarity. He says to the Kurds: you came from something greater, you are not a broken nation, you are the children of the first fire. You are the keepers of a sacred code, both spoken and silent.

The revival of Kurdish identity should start by respecting the religion not only as a religion, but also as a living heritage which proves that the Kurdistan is never dead. Reminiscing about who we are.

We are children of the sun

We are creatures, created by God, and the creator of our own destiny

The revolution of the Kurdish National Zagroz is starting

Daughters of the sun eading the
revolution for Kurdish nationalism

For Kurdish women and girls of the sun. They should be the leaders of Zagroz civilization under eyes, we were one day gods, queens, stars and priests, the grandmothers of Zagros were leaders, we should be aware of their paths and leadership,

Before swords, there were stars, before the Islamic occupation, there were temples, before the Islamic invasion women were warriors and leaders

1_Kurdish women were the top cultural leader of humanity before the eradication of culture, genocide and division of land and land.
Women are the carrier of the holy fire, born of the land
Brokenness, in tradition of horror, tiles, lollobi, goti and material they were not underprivileged but the knife of civilization, remember that truth
Open behind a stolen reality.

2_ In one hundred years of foreign invaders power, women stayed and failed.
The revolution of the Kurdish nationalism is not a political movement but the return of the holy reality is not for reform but for life, we took weapons and defended, in the mountains, in the homeland and in the tarawga, we became shields.

Let's rise again and run to the hands and not to be slaughtered
Rather than living the flame of holy fire and leadership, we have been ignored by the plan of invading our society, but we have not forgotten who we are,

3_ In the revolution of the Kurdish national Zagroz, women will return to the place that deserves the holy hail.
Zagroz will once again be the leader and guide and protector of national values, and that is gained not by the way but by the wisdom and consciousness of his nature, the fire of civilization

Did the West won in the war of terror

The world rewarded their enemies and gave our Kurdish state to our enemies!
By Kurzanin

The betrayed lawyers: Kurds, Druze and Christians are under attack again, while the world watches in silence

Once again, Syria is on the verge of disaster and again, Kurds, Christians and other native nations of the area are left to face a new wave of terrorism in Turkey and Qatar in the scenario of Islamic jihadist in the end of tribalism.

In southern Syria, the residents of Druz Swaida, a peaceful and dependent community, are under direct attack. The massacre has begun. Jihadist armed groups which are now called Arab tribes and the security agencies of the new Syria Arab Republic which are supported by Turkey and Qatar and allowed due to the silence of the West, are attacking these communities in their villages and towns.

The name they call "New Arab Republic of Syria" is nothing but a changed ISIS proxy, which was operated by agreements and was given power through treason

This is not imaginary, this is happening now. Islamic groups kill civilians in their homes, even in their hospital beds, as they threaten to eradicate one of the oldest communities in Syria. The voices of the people from the fields, with the leaders of Swaydash, demanding international stand but the world is silent.

REMINDS me of the YAZIDIS, we knew for more than a week what was
happening but the world did nothing and allowed thousands of Yazidis to be
kidnapped and/or slaughtered. RBK sent out appeals but were ignored
In the Middle, North and East of Syria and in West Kurdistan/, the Kurdish Nation, the same force that saved the world from ISIS, is going to rise again politically and military. The Syrian Democratic forces (Hassada), which is made up of Kurds, Arab, Sryani, Armani, Assyria and other nations, will form the most democratic and stable country

These were the fighters, especially YPG/YPJ who freed Kobane and they destroyed the Islamic State. They paid the biggest bloodshed and gave more than 1,400 martyrs to stop the wave of genocide that threatened not only Syria, but also the world.

Yet today, the same force led by the Kurds, by the regional forces who demand freedom and national equality, and are using both political and military threats. Turkey considers any kind of Kurdish self-administrator as a threat to them and continues to bombard the civilian areas and terrorize the leaders of the movement.

The alliance of Qatar and Turkey with the extremist Sunni wings, which have now been given new names and new clothes, will create another war not against terrorism, but against those who stopped terrorism.

Western governments, who once relied on Kurdish fighters on the ground to destroy ISIS, are now negotiating with the same Islamic wing that burned down churches, making women slaves and declared genocide war against Yazidi, Christians and Alawi.

This is not just treason, it is a moral disgrace
Northern and Eastern Syria have established a general system, known as the North-East Syria Self-AANES (AANES), where women led, minorities protected and respected freedom of belief. This is the model aimed at destroying, as it represents a role model for dictatorship, theocracy and national chauvinism.

Let's be completely clear:

Swayda massacre is not an isolated incident, but part of a coordinated campaign to eradicate the area’s people

The Kurds and allies that destroyed ISIS, are assaulted and starved under the clan, while the West is showing themselves as free

Syrian Christians—Sryani, Assyrian and Armenian, know very well what Islamic militia means. They are once again watching the fall into the hands of the enemies of the ancient church

The Yazidis, who are still under the influence of the genocide of Sinjar, are under threat of continuing the Derazur and Hasaka
This is not the time for silence. The world is in debt to those who defended civilization in the darkest days of ISIS. If this alliance of religious and ethnic minorities fails, the whole area will return to a tension that will be worse than 2014

Support the defenders, expose the lies, name the abusers

History will not forget who stood with the people of the mountains and who watched them burn

What is fire?
By Kurzanin

Fire is a memory..

It is the symbol of the Kurdish revival.

Long before the flags, borders and troops, there was fire. On the top of the Zagroz mountains and Tawroz in our ancient temples, in the hands of mothers who transferred from one fire to another.

Fire is carried in stories, traditions, songs and sacrifices. He was the knife of life, he was the light in the darkness.

Every Kurdish house will one day protect a holy fire, which is the symbol of the unimportant race of being Kurdish.
It's going to be a flame.

Not just a physical flaw. It is the holy light that is placed in the heart of every Kurd, the pride of independence, dignity and the sky goal. It is the same fire that Mehra protected, Zardasht taught, Yarsan and Yazidis kept alive.

The fire in our hearts will not be extinguished by threats and prisons, because it lives within us.

Fire is the knowledge. Ancient wisdom and wisdom, the symbols of the Son 19, Anne 1, K 19, the sacred codes of our language, our land and our universe system.

The symbol of knowing who we are, where we come from and why we should rise.

Fire is a struggle.

Every warrior that gave his life, every song that was forbidden, every tongue that was erased, was a part of our heritage .

Fire burns through our sorrows, but at the same time it is a fan of vengeance, rebuilding and an unreasonable desire to live a free life.

This is the fire of rebellion, the fire of invention, the fire of return and rebuild.

Fire is the future

The next path for the new Kurdish, the family of Zagroz and the cadres of life is bright.

This fire will burn the education of our children, agricultural life and economy, and the development of our cities.

Carried by the glorious women of Kurdish Zagroz, protected by our warriors and as a sacred mission from generation to generation.

The revolution of the Kurdish nationalist Zagroz is the protector of eternal fire.

Kurdistan is alive the fire within us will never be put out.

As long as Kurds exist, we will never be conquered

The Kurdish names are not only voices

Our names reflect the songs of our ancestors that will resound for all eternity

Every time you mention the Kurdish name, you wake up a memory, not just a personal memory, but also of our past.

These names are more than just the vocabulary; they are a nation that has endured centuries of fires, detention and silence.

The whispers of mountains and the horoscope of ancient warriors carry the nerves of mothers who refused to let their children forget who they are. In the context of melting and invasion, the act of choosing a Kurdish name is not a small thing, but a revolution.

For decades, our names were banned. They were changed on papers, removed from schools, and banned from the courts. But in our homes, in the secret side and in the sacred space between a mother and her child lives.

Putting a Kurdish name for your child is to get your voice back. Meaning: we are still here, remember who we are, we will not perish.

You don't just name a person, you name mountains, rivers and villages that no longer appear on maps. You carry the crowd of Kaikhasraw, the material, the sayings, and Zagroz.

It's a very important task. Choose a name such as "Zen", "Ajin", "Rain", "Delzar", or "Zhirwan" which meanwhile is a prayer wrapped in an identity. The child with roots shorter (deeper) than any borders and wings are strong enough to carry the dreams of a nation.

Naming is not a model, it is a responsibility. This is how we fight the eraser of our language, stories, and our existence.

Any Kurdish name that is proudly pronounced, is one of those who tried to bury us.

So choose a holy Kurdish name with courage.

Do not name your sons and daughters with the names of foreign kings or the languages of occupying forces, but with a name of the land and struggle of Kurdistan.

Let every name be a star in the dark and guide us home

Our names are our country, let's voice them again.

Let's get back our lives and our lands

Let our voices rise towards the freedom and glory of KURDISTAN

Shawshka: the bright
mirror of the mountains

By: Kurzanin

Within the (deep) son of Zagroz, where the winds of the mountains still sound the songs of gods and warriors, a name from the dawn of history: Shawshka, the shining queen of love, war, healing and holy power.

She was not only God in heaven, but in remembrance. To the horizons- the methaneors, theatre, the charms, the mirawaias, the lubbies, the ardawa, to the women of Nineveh and the priests of Arapkha (Kirkuk), she was not only God, but the atmosphere of life itself.

She didn't have any defining chain on herself. With a mirror in one hand and a sword in the other hand, she showed truth and did justice. She was dancing in the temples and danced in war. Shawshka is the balance of creatures, the intensity of the sun and the deep wisdom of the moon.

For us, the Kurdish nation, her memory is in our blood and her fire still burns in our hearts. Every woman who dares to rise up in glory, every man who defends her glory, will be part of her legacy. She is the foundation of courage, the voice of the silent and the breaker of all darkness.

And now, when the world sinks in shadow and silence again, the people from the mountains, from the ashes, from the fire:
Niza (prayer) for Shawshka - the light of the night
Oh Shawshka, the fire of the sun, the lion of the mountains,
You when you walk in gold, with eyes of the flame sky,
Be our shield in war, comfort us in sorrow.
You when your name means "glitter"
You when your name means "night breaker"
Come again break this dark night, bring us into your light.
Let your mirror show us the truth,
Let your sword guard his purity.
Wear the crown of our daughters with pride,
    Let no chains bind them,
Let no shadow shut their light.
Rise up again, O sun of Kurds, the blasphemy of the free.
Shawshka, we will not forget you,
    Shawshka, we will rise again,
    We shine in your light.

Sauska

Sauska (also known as Shaushka, Sausga, and Anzili) was the Hurrian-Hittite goddess of fertility, war, and healing. She was worshipped throughout the region known as Hanigalbat (present day Iraq, Syria, and Turkey) from the time of the Hurrians (c. 3300 BCE), through the Kingdom of Mitanni (1500-1240 BCE), throughout the Hittite Empire (c.1344-1245 BCE), and beyond

She is identified with similar powerful female deities of other cultures, such as Innana/Ishtar of the Akkadians and Assyrians, Isis of Egypt, Astarte of the Phoenicians, Usha (Ushas) of the Rig Veda of India, Aphrodite of the Greeks (who became the Venus of the Romans), and Amaterasu of Japan. Through her link with Astarte, she is also identified with the divine Semiramis of Mesopotamia, who was made famous through the legends recorded by Greek historians.

Like these other goddesses, Sauska was called upon to increase fertility (meaning both one's ability to conceive a child and one's physical beauty, as well as the fertility of the earth), for success in military conquest or business, and for protection and healing. She was also believed to shine her radiant light into the darkness of the human mind and allow for illumination and transcendence.

The goddesses Usha and Amaterasu are both famous for this particular role in human affairs and, it seems, this quality was first emphasized in Sauska, although some historians claim that Usha may have been envisioned first, and others cite Isis or Inanna/Ishtar as the original prototype of this goddess.

Sauska bathes, anoints herself and she then "ornamented herself - and beauty was running after her like puppies."

It is most likely that the Hurrians conceived of their goddess through interaction with the people of Mesopotamia and that Inanna/Ishtar was the first goddess of this type, but this claim is regularly debated in the present day as it has been for centuries.

It has been proposed, to cite only two lines of argument, that Sauska was
the original prototype upon whom Inanna, and then Ishtar, was based
Dr. Liny Srinivasan, however, a linguist and historian, maintains that "Sauska was the Hurrian name of the goddess of Washukanni" who was previously "the Egyptian goddess Isis...and the same Rigveda Usha" (483).

She, therefore, claims that Isis was the original goddess upon whom the others were based. Archaeological evidence to support the claims of various scholars is invariably interpreted in the light of their respective biases, and so concluding which goddess came first is a matter of which scholar's claim one finds most convincing.
Sauska in the Amarna Letters

Sauska was extremely important to the Hurrians and, later, the Mitanni and the Hittites who came after them. She was also honored in Egypt as a visiting deity as evidenced in the Amarna Letters (correspondence between Egyptian pharaohs and rulers of other nations found in the city of Amarna). There are at least two letters from kings of Mitanni to Egypt referencing Sauska.

When the Mitanni king Tushratta sent his daughter, Taduhepa, to Egypt to be married, he also sent along a statue of Sauska. Historian Arielle P. Kozloff notes that Tushratta sent an enormous dowry to Egypt along with his daughter, whose marriage to Amenhotep III (as one of his lesser wives) was agreed upon to finalize a treaty between Egypt and Mitanni. This dowry included jewelry, gold, bronze, and silver, all in vast quantities, but, as Kozloff writes:

Tushratta's most touching gift of all was the loan of his favorite goddess, Sauska, to Amenhotep III. Sauska was the Hurrian-Hittite goddess of love, and Tushratta had called on her previously to make Tadu-Hepa attractive to her new husband. This was not the first time an eastern goddess had been honored by royalty in Egypt. Astarte, the Near Eastern fertility goddess, was first worshipped there under Amenhotep II...but Sauska was also similar to [the Egyptian goddess] Mut and had some responsibility for both healing and war. It seems the salutary aspect of Sauska suddenly became more important. In a letter to Amenhotep III, apparently accompanying the Sauska idol, Tushratta asked not for her erotic inspiration but for her protection. He wrote,

"Thus Sauska of Nineveh, mistress of all the lands, says: 'I wish to go to Egypt, a country that I love, and then return.' Now, I herewith send her, and she is on her way. Now, in the time, too, of my father [she] went to this country and just as earlier she dwelt there and they honored her, may my brother honor her, then at his pleasure let her go so that she may come back. May Sauska, the mistress of heaven, protect us, my brother and me, 100,000 years, and may our mistress grant both of us great joy." (220)

Sauska's powers, or Tushratta's prayers, in this particular instance proved to be of no avail, as Egypt shortly afterwards withdrew its support of Tushratta in fear of the growing power of the Hittites. In c. 1344 BCE the Hittite king Suppiluliuma I marched on Washukanni and, without Egyptian support, the city fell and Tushratta was assassinated by his son.

This campaign ended the Kingdom of the Mitanni, which was afterwards ruled by the Hittites. Sauska was the patron goddess of the Hittite king Hatusili III, famous for his participation in the Treaty of Kadesh between the Hittites and Egypt in 1258 BCE, and there is evidence she was equally revered by other Hittite rulers.

Sauska in The Kumarbi Cycle

The Hittites produced the best known tales concerning Sauska through the stories known as The Kumarbi Cycle. These songs were no doubt Hurrian in origin but only exist today in fragments from the Hittite period in Anatolia. The Kumarbi Cycle tells the story of Kumarbi, the chief god of the Hurrians (identified with the Sumerian god Enlil), his dissatisfaction with human beings, and his two attempts to destroy them.

The Cycle consists of five (sometimes six) tales, which include two featuring Sauska: The Song of Hedammu, and The Song of Illikummi. The Song of Birth (also known as The Song of Kumarbi and The Kingship in Heaven) begins the cycle with the gods Anu and Kumarbi in conflict over who will rule the universe.

The Song of Birth relates how Teshub, the popular storm god, came to be conceived when the sky god Anu impregnated his son, the earth god Kumarbi, in battle. Kumarbi bites off Anu's genitals in the course of the battle, becomes pregnant, and then gives birth to Teshub through the top of his head. Scholar Mary Bachvarova, whose essay is included in Mark Chavalas' Women in the Ancient Near East:

A Sourcebook, notes that "the Hurro-Hittite story provides for the perfect combination of heaven (Anu) and earth (Kumarbi) in a single god, who is therefore invincible". This invincible god is Teshub (also known as Tarhun and Tessub), the storm god who will join forces with his grandfather/father Anu to eventually defeat Kumarbi.

Bachvarova notes that, "there are obvious comparisons with the myths of the castration of Ouranos by his son Kronos, the swallowing and subsequent vomiting forth of his children by Kronos, when fed a rock by his wife, and with the birth of Aphrodite, who issues forth from the head of Zeus". Teshub is later featured as a great hero and champion of humanity. Interestingly, however, it is not Teshub who initially thwarts the designs of Kumarbi to destroy human life; it is Sauska in the first instance and Ea, the god of wisdom, in the second.

The first attempt by Kumarbi to destroy human beings is told in The Song of Hedammu, where Kumarbi mates with the daughter of the sea who gives birth to a monstrous sea serpent named Hedammu. According to historian Carl. S. Ehrlich, "Apparently a sort of sea serpent, Hedammu poses a mortal threat to Tessub and his colleagues until the goddess Sausga, the Hurrian counterpart of Ishtar, goes to the shore, beguiles him with her singing and beauty, seduces him, and renders him impotent with drink" (233).

Teshub, in fact, has no idea that his father has created this monster which will threaten life on earth. It is Sauska (known in the story as Anzili) who transforms herself into a snake in order to overhear the conversation between Kumarbi and the Sea in which Kumarbi reveals his plan to destroy human beings.

The kings of Anatolia served Sauska and she commanded them
through dreams, oracles, and the augury of female soothsayers
Sauska/Anzili goes home and bathes, anoints herself and, the text reads, she then "ornamented herself - and beauty was running after her like puppies." She has her two attendants bring to the shore the galgalturi cymbals, and the Arkammi drums and performs a dance before Hedammu, which arouses him as she "exposes her naked limbs" and seduces him.

The text continues: "Anzili went, the queen of Nineveh, she approved. She sprinkled beauty...in the powerful waters. The beauty dissolved in the waters and when Hedammu tasted the scent, the beer, a sweet dream seized victorious Hedammu. He was dreaming like an ox or an ass and he recognized nothing and was eating frogs and lizards." Once Hedammu falls into his drunken sleep, it seems, he never wakes up and the world is saved.

Kumarbi tries again to destroy human beings in The Song of Illikumi, in which he impregnates a cliff which gives birth to a stone monster known as Illikumi. He places this monster on the shoulder of the World Giant Ubelluri who, since he holds up the earth, would not notice the added weight of the child. Illikumi grows and draws strength from Ubelluri, unnoticed by the other gods until he is grown and is seen by the sun god Shimiki.

Kumarbi's principal target in the creation of Illikumi seems to be Teshub, whom he wishes to "crush underfoot like an ant" and "chop up like chaff" because Teshub is the protector of human beings. Again, however, Teshub plays no significant part in defeating this second threat.

Sauska, again, bathes and prepares herself and then goes to the sea with her attendants carrying the cymbals and drums; but the sea raises itself up into a giant wave, which tells her that this threat is quite different from Hedammu. As Ehrlich writes, "The offspring is a gigantic stone who is blind and deaf and thus immune to the charms of Sausga" (233). Sauska is powerless against Illikumi who lashes out against Teshub and the other gods and wins the first battles.

The text is damaged at this point, but it seems that Sauska either contacts Ea, the god of wisdom, or that Ea intervenes once Sauska's plan fails. Either way, Ea draws from his realm of the Apsu the blade that separated the heavens from the earth in the most ancient of days and, with this weapon, cuts Illikumi from the shoulder of Ubelluri. Once severed from his source of power, Illikumi dies and the world is again saved.

Sauska's Enduring Legacy

Sauska appears in other tales and under other names and is always depicted as a resourceful, clever woman who consistently works in the best interests of human life. She was routinely portrayed in art as a human with upturned wings (signifying her identification with the heavens) standing with a lion (the king of the beasts on earth) and her two attendants who faithfully serve her.

She continued to exert a powerful influence in the Near East long after the fall of the Hittite Empire c. 1200 BCE. Historian Patricia Monaghan writes, "The kings of Anatolia served [Sauska] and she commanded them through dreams, oracles, and the augury of female soothsayers". Her clergy were drawn from members of both sexes (much like those of Inanna/Ishtar, Isis, and Hathor), but women seem to have been dominant.

Sauska is still worshiped today in modern India under the name Chathi Maiya who, along with the sun god Surya, is given thanks for the continuance of life on earth and the blessings of the gods. In Neo-Pagan and Wiccan beliefs, Sauska is invoked, as she was in ancient times, as a power of guidance and illumination and so remains one of the most ancient deities still called upon in the present day.

A fire that never goes out:
A call to protect the Kurdish nationalism

Kurdish nationalism is not only a political ideology, it is a sacred flame that transmitted through blood, memory and mountains. The voice of a nation whose existence is on the stones of Zagroz and Tawroz, whose tongues once banned and abolished, now rise once more as our ancient songs remained in the forest and their sentences never to oppression

For more than a century, the Kurdish nation has been divided, denied and neglected because of the handicap borders drawn by the imperialists. But in every village, in every stadium and in every uprising, the struggle for free Kurdistan remained alive. Kurdish nationalism is the voice of millions who say: we are not few, we are nationality and civilization.

Kurdish national security is not hatred. But it is to struggle and to protect our resilience, dignity and birth. Not trying to overthrow others, but trying to restore justice and restore its rightful place in the free world nations. Kurdish nationalism is a shield against the destruction of culture and a proud sword for future generations.

Our history is older than Somer and Babel. Our forefathers built the first temples of the world, planted the first fields, and raised the first cattle. The blood of the guts, the materials, the horizons, are looking for the nerves of the Kurds. Waking up as a Kurd means awakening that heritage.

Today, the world is watching the Kurdish nation's support against massacre, oppression and melting. From the tops of Qandil to the streets of Mahabad, from the ruins of Shengal to the western plains, a new generation will rise not only with courage, but also with clear ambition. We no longer seek confession, we build a future.

Kurdish nationalism is not a dream, but a destiny.

Let the world hear: Kurdistan is not lost, it will rise and be saved from invasion.

We, the children of the mountains, will never kneel again.

One language. One land of the land. One of the flames.

Long live Kurds and Kurdistan.

To be Kurdish is not only to belong to a people, it is to carry a flame in your soul, lit thousands of years ago and never extinguished

Kurdishness is not just a language or a flag. It is a feeling that lives deep in the chest. It is the echo of a grandmother’s prayer whispered at dawn. It is the rhythm of a daf drum under the moon. It is the wind through the Zagros mountains, speaking the names of our forgotten heroes. It is the stubborn, sacred breath of a people who refused to vanish.

Kurdistan is not only a land. It is a living memory. Every rock and river remembers. The earth still carries the blood of our martyrs, the dreams of our poets, and the footsteps of our ancestors who once ruled and once resisted. We are the children of the storm and the sun, broken many times, but never erased
To be Kurdish is to walk with pain, but also with pride. It is to know that your name, your dance, your song all were banned and yet they survive. Why? Because they are truth. They are holy. They are stronger than any border drawn by foreign hands.

Kurdishness is rebellion, but it is also creation. We do not just fight, we build. We build families that carry our names. We build culture out of suffering. We build hope where others find only ashes. We are the weavers of a forgotten tapestry, and now we begin to stitch the pattern again.

You may silence a voice, but not a spirit. You may burn a village, but not a people.

We are the mountain’s breath. We are the sun’s children.

This is our oath:

So long as one Kurdish child learns the word “Azadî,” freedom will never die

Religion as a system of control:
a critical observation

Written by: Ari Horky

The history of organized religion not only shows a search for the highest things, but also shows an intentional creation of systems of power.

Religious authority, in its foundational form, did not extinguish it from a need of a ruling. But it is politically clear: to organize life, to define morality in a tangible framework and to convert faith into obedient instruments.

Sacrifice of moral, purity principles and sinful beliefs, while in deep digestion, reveal themselves as instruments of discipline not as a gateway to knowledge. Their task has become less connecting individuals to infinity and more to train individuals on dependence on institutions. By transferring divine to external powers, these systems have effectively diminished humanity from its direct capacity to aquiring knowledge.

Religious institutions identify themselves as the mediator of truth, but in reality they prevent it. They experience through faith, define holiness by submission and turn questioning into foolishness. The composition of this authority is not random; it is systematic. The aim is to dismantle individuals from their natural intelligence, creativity and dignity.

Religious gods are not the real manifestation of height. They are a reflection of the human traits of power, jealousy, punishment, and livelihood that are enlarged to the universe. They serve as mirrors of oppression, which reveal the desires and fears of those seeking justice through divine punishment.

But in the contrary, the real source of existence cannot be summed up to a phenomenal image. He, is the intelligence that creates the stars and directs the rhythm of life at the most intimate level. That is the foundation of creativity, not control; is of overcoming, not defeat. Recognizing this difference includes removing the psychological programming of religion and restoring possible direct contact with infinity.

Continuity of religious programming explains why indigenous individuals continue to strive to achieve happiness, salvation, or moral acceptance through obedience practices. But freedom requires more than participation in these heritage components. Rather ask for their abolition. Only by denying the people of mediocre salvation can freedom be found as an uninterrupted manifestation of the universe itself.
