More Syrian refugees arrive in Iraq’s Kurdistan

In addition to medical services, education is needed for children as well. Therefore, officials in Basirma camp say there are plans to open schools for Syrian children living there.

Iraq’s Kurdistan region has also provided financial aid to Syrian refugees. So far, the region has received around two hundred thousand Syrians who hope one day they can return to their homeland.

The Kurdistan Region's Interior Minister told the UNHCR that camp resources are stretched. Officials have questioned why Kurdistan's refugee crisis has received little international assistance. Some analysts say it's because Kurdistan is still viewed as an unsafe region. Kurdistan's past seems to be making it difficult to deal with the present influx of Syrian refugees.

Tens of thousands of other Syrians have also taken refugee in other countries like Jordan and Lebanon. They have left Syria to escape the ongoing fighting between the government and insurgents whom Damascus says are supported by some Western countries and their regional allies.
