Assad’s new Kurdish tactic

Despite the fact that before the Syrian civil war Bashar al-Assad wouldn’t even give Syrian Kurds rights of citizenship, he is now attempting to form an alliance with the Kurds as the war reaches a critical stage.
While the Syrian opposition is preparing for the 2nd Geneva Conference, Syrian Kurdish groups are revealing the terms of their agreement with the Syrian National Council. Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has announced that he is prepared to give Syrian Kurds their rights as citizens.

According to the Milliyet newspaper, member of the Kurdish National Council, Ilham Ehmed, has shared some of their demands in a pre-Geneva meeting with representatives from Turkey’s Foreign Ministry.

Stating that Syrian Kurds want an 18% representation in the Syrian parliament guaranteed by a new constitution as a condition for Kurdish cooperation, he also said that the Syrian National Coalition would serve no purpose if it is comprised of only one sect or race.

Kurdish parliamentarian Omer Ose, the head of the Syrian Peace Committee and close ally of Bashar al-Assad was sent to northern Iraq. Ose spoke of his visit on the Rudaw and Avestakurd websites.

‘‘I have seen Assad twice in two months. I told him of my plan to visit the Kurdistan region, with which he was pleased. He has told his army not to kill or attack Kurds. Right now Turkey’s stance against Syria and Syria Kurds is very bad. They are supporting terrorist groups who are at war with the Kurds. Last year Assad sent a private jet to collect Kurdish leaders from Kamisli and bring them over to him in Damascus. The year earlier he officially invited the leader of the Kurdistan region Mesut Barzani, but this invitation was turned down.’’

Commenting on the Autonomous Kurdish Administration’s good relations with Turkey and the US, Ose said ‘‘Assad is aware of Kurdistan’s relationship with Turkey and the US. He is respectful towards this. Assad told me that if I go to Kurdistan I should tell them that Syria is not against them. Rather, Syria is their friend. He said if Syria falls, Iran would follow, and then Kurdistan.’’

‘‘Assad wants to play the role for Kurdistan and see Syrian Kurds draw closer to Damascus. He wants to improve relations with Barzani. Assad is happy to give Syrian Kurds some of their rights, such as Kurdish language schools and citizenship cards, as well as Kurdish language TV and Radio channels, in addition to many more,’’ said Ose.

Asad will give these basic rights to kurds no matter what happen ,because denying kurdish existence does not work anymore and rolling tanks to Kurdish cities does not work either .
Exploiting the situation of kurds to display that he is a democratic leader who is willing to give kurds all their rights is the best thing he can do .

We must watch out, and who killed Mr Mashaal Tammo?? Was it Assad and/or did the PYD have anything to do with and if so why?

Tammo's son, Fares Tammo, has urged Syria's Kurds to throw their support behind the revolt, telling the New York Times: "My father's assassination is the screw in the regime's coffin. They made a big mistake by killing my father."

Mashaal Tammo was not an important figure or a revolutionary person as many people think he was . The guy was an advocate of a pluralistic state which kurds can be a mere component in Syria . He had good relation with syrian regime then all the sudden he became a member of Syrian National Council and strongly opposed PyD's dominance in western Kurdistan .
In a sense neither his friend nor his enemies trusted him due his shifting mentality . He was most certainly killed by either turkey or one of the FSA groups to drag the kurds to the war with Syrian regime .
