Salahadin sends delegation regarding annexing Xurmatu to Kirkuk After Council and Administration of Xurmatu voted in favor of annexing Xurmatu to Kirkuk. Salahaddin Council and Administration has send a delegation to investigate the decision; the delegation also showed Salahaddin`s disapprove of the decision.
According to Xurmatu official, Shalal Abdul: “The real purpose of the visitation was not to investigate the decision as they claimed, but to find out who was behind it.”
The official also stated that after meeting with city`s officials and administration, the Salahaddin delegation concluded that the decision was made based on Xurmatu`s real, bitter condition, and there was no one in particular behind the decision.
Shalah Abdul also pointed out that they told the delegation that the real reason was that Salahaddin Governorate did not contribute towards making Xurmatu better in terms of security and since Salahaddin cannot keep the people and the condition of the city secure, it is our right to ask to become Kirkuk`s district, as the city of Xurmatu was before, hoping our security issues will be solved under Kirkuk`s reign.
According to Azad Abu-Bakr, member of Legal Representatives` Committee, since the decision to annex Xurmatu to Kirkuk is made by all the compositions of the city of Xurmatu, the Council and Administration of Salahaddin has no right to disapprove the decision. “Since the decision is made by common consent, the case could be sent to the Federal Court,” Mr. Azad added, and the Federal Court will make everyone submit.
A Kurdish member of Salahaddin Council expressed Kurdish sides` readiness to support the case of Xurmatu so that “the city develops in terms of security and service.” The Kurdish official in Salahaddin Council also pointed out: “Xurmatu`s decision is legal and is according to Article 140 in the Iraqi Constitution.”
On another occasion, despite all the opposition the case is receiving, Kirkuk officials have expressed their support to Xurmatu`s decision in an earlier time. And, Najmadin Karim, Kirkuk Governor, also showed his and Kirkuk Council`s willingness to annexing of Kfri, Kalar, and Chamchamal Districts to Kirkuk, too.
