Fierce clashes in Haseke region

Clashes have been reported between regime forces and the Al Nusra Front to the southwest of the city of Haseke (al Hasaka) in West Kurdistan in areas beyond the control of YPG forces.

According to reports from the area armed groups from the Al Nusra Front, affiliated to Al Qaeda, launched an attack on the city from south-western neighbourhoods at around 8 am local time this morning.

When units of the Syrian army responded fierce clashes broke out in the Xwêran neighbourhood. According to local sources the Al Nusra forces have suffered heavy losses. No information has yet been received regarding Syrian army losses. Ambulances are reported to have gone to the area and brought casualties to hospitals in the city.
