Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) delegation visited the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) yesterday in continuation of the diplomatic talks with political parties from all four parts of Kurdistan, in order for the establishment of a joint platform to discuss Kurdish national unity.

The KNK delegation made up of KNK Deputy Co-chair Tahir Kemelizade, KNK Council member Kamûran Berwarî and KNK members Firyad Hiranî and Ferhat Doskî was welcomed by PAK chairman Huseyîn Yezdanpene and PAK Council members at the party's headquarter in Hewler. Following the one and a half hour meeting, a statement was given to the press by Kemalîzade and Yezdanpene.

Yezdanpene opened the press statement, stressing the importance they attach to the meeting. Yezdanpene said: "The meeting was very positive and productive. Our friends from the KNK explained us their programme, whereupon we added some proposals. Issues of national scopes need indeed to be discussed in national councils, assemblies and national platforms, rather than within the frame of parties. We are honored to be able to assist in this task."

The day before, the KNK delegation had met the head of Eastern Kurdistan Labour Organisation, Babê Şêx, and its Council members. The Labour Organisation declared thereafter as well, their full commitment to the establishment of national unity.

TOUR OF TALKS INCLUDED 18 PARTIES SO FAR

After issuing a call for a joint platform to reinstate efforts for a national congress, the KNK started its diplomatic meetings on June 12, and met one by one these parties by now: The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the Movement for Change (Gorran), Komala Islamic Party, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP-Iraq), the Kurdistan Laborers Party (Hizbî Zehmetkêşan), the Yekgirtu Islamic Party, the Kurdistan Communist Party, the Bizûtneweyî İslami, the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), the People of Kurdistan Democratic Movement (Bizûtneweyî Demokrasi Gelê Kurdistan), the Kurdistan Democratic National Unity Party (YNDK), Tevgera Azadi, the Iranian Kurdistan Revolutionary and Workers Party - Komala, the Iran Communist Party - Komala and Eastern Kurdistan Democratic Society Congress (KODAR), Democratic Societies Congress (KCD), Democratic Regions' Party (DBP) and both wings of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP-Iran).

THE JOINT PLATFORM FOR NATIONAL UNITY TO BE HELD IN JULY

After the meetings with political parties and civil organisations in all four parts of Kurdistan have been completed, the KNK intends to hold a platform with approximately 250-400 attendants in mid July, where the discussions for national unity will take its beginning.

Syrian Kurds hold meeting to unify ranks
Reporting by: Wladimir van Wilgenburg

Abdulkarim Omer, the head of foreign relations for Cezire Canton in Syria’s Kurdish region-Rojava, held a rare meeting with the Kurdish Women’s Union and the deputy head of the Barzani-backed Kurdish National Council (KNC) Fasla Yusuf to discuss holding a Kurdish national congress.

A delegation of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) led by Abdulkarim Omer met with members of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) and invited them to a consultative meeting to be held on the 15-16th this month.

The KNK delegation included Abdulkarim Omer, Nasr Eddin Ibrahim, Abeer Hassaf, Luqman Ahmi, and Talal Mohammed. The delegation met with KNC’s Fasla Yusuf, Mahmoud Mullah, and Khalil Hossam.

The KNC co-head said they could not participate in a consultative meeting, if members of the KNC continue to be arrested and headquarters of KNC parties continue to be closed by the Asayish police of the Rojava Self-Administration.

Abdulkarim Omer, on the other hand, said: “We believe the time has come for the Kurdish people to unite their ranks in light of the difficulties and gains achieved by the Kurdish forces in the region.”

“The atmosphere of the meeting was very positive, and there are requests from the Kurdish National Council, and we will raise them to the leadership of the Kurdistan National Congress,” he said.

Until now, members of the KNK met with several Syrian Kurdish parties, including the Leftist Gathering, the Kurdish National Alliance, and the Progressive Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria.

Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s President Masoud Barzani mediated three agreements between 2012 and 2014 between the PKK-backed Democratic Union Party (PYD) that rules Rojava and the KDP-backed Kurdish National Council (KNC) to share power in Rojava-Northern Syria. However, none of the agreements were implemented due to the deep disputes between the political factions, and tensions have increased between the two sides.

Abdulkarim Omer, the head of foreign relations for the PYD-led Cezire Canton in Syria’s Kurdish region-Rojava, told ARA News that a solution among Kurdish rivals in Rojava is still possible.

“We Kurds need a national congress for all of Kurdistan, so we can solve our internal problems. We have problems with the KNC, also there are problems between Gorran and the KDP, the PKK and the KDP. If we have a congress we can solve all problems,” he said.

However, Omer blamed Turkey for pressuring KDP not to accept a Kurdish national congress. “If the Kurdish issue is solved in Turkey, the relation will be good with the KDP,” he said.
