25th International Kurdish Culture Festival to be held in Cologne
The largest gathering of Kurdish people in Europe will take place in Cologne this year, organising committee announced. In a statement, the organising committee said that the festival will be held on September 16, in Deutzer Werft, Cologne, in Germany.
Since the first festival in Bochum in 1992, International Kurdish Culture Festival is the most important cultural event for the Kurds living in Europe. Around 100 thousand people attend the festival each year.
The committee invited all those who want to show solidarity with Kurdish people and the democratic struggle in Middle East, to the festival.
The festival is dedicated this year to the Rojava Revolution and martyrs of self-governance uprising in 2016.
The committee statement read: “The resistance of our people in Rojava and other parts of Kurdistan, their firm and brave stance, their insistence for the freedom and emancipation struggle is the greatest inspiration and a source of courage for us.”
The committee also pointed out that freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan is the main motto for the festival and said; “attending this festival will mean attending a meeting for freedom of Öcalan.”
The programme of the festival is yet to be announced.
