Erdogan tells Kurds to put down arms

PostAuthor: Aslan » Sat Mar 09, 2013 11:56 pm

SIIRT, Turkey, March 9 (UPI) -- Kurdish nationalists must give up their arms and work within the parliamentary system, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday.

Erdogan said the government will not work with the Kurdistan Workers Party, usually known by its Turkish acronym PKK, while it continues a military strategy, the Anatolian News Agency reported.

Speaking in Siirt, a heavily Kurdish province in southeast Turkey, Erdogan reminded his audience his wife is from Siirt and is an Arab.

"I love my Kurdish brother, my Arab brother and my Turkish brother in the same way. I don't discriminate," Erdogan said. "If I did that sort of discrimination, why would I marry an Arab girl from Siirt? This is the best proof of it."

While 70 percent to 75 percent of Turkish nationals are ethnically Turkish, the country has a significant Kurdish minority as well as members of other ethnic groups.

"Twelve years ago, we said no to ethnic nationalism," Erdogan said, referring to the founding of his Justice and Development Party in 2001. "We said no to policies of denial and assimilation. We are also against regional nationalism. The East will have exactly the same as the West, whether with a central government or a local government."

He;s right. I love the PKK, but they need to give up the weapons for now. Turkey cannot go back to the 90's policies and the general public is tired of the war. We will be able to achieve far more without weapons. Turkey is not Iran, they have to answer to the EU. We could organize mass rallies and they wouldn't be able to do anything. Try even gathering 10 people in Rojhalat and you will be hanged.

The strength of the Kurds is their vast numbers inside Turkey and elsewhere.

I have tried many times to come up with ideas, Gandhi could do it so could Kurds :D

You must be joking. Please tell me you're joking.

Turkey is a maniac country. If Iran acted like Turkey, there would be no Kurdish minority in Iran today. There would also be no Azeri minority or Arab minority or Turcoman minority, etc. Yes the Iranian regime is bad, but the Persians are like angels compared to the Turks.

Turkey will never give its minorities any rights. The country is inherently bent on pan-Turkic nationalism and will never give up its ideologies until probably god himself destroys it. Answer to the EU? The EU, NATO and the entire west, including Uncle Sam America, have known about Turkish crimes for more than 50 years. Why haven't they done anything about it? Because Turkey are their puppet friends and Turkey will always be needed by the western powers. So don't expect EU to do anything about Kurdish minority rights.

The only solution for Kurdish people is to sign a deal with the Israelis. The Israelis are being isolated and marginalized by the whole world today. The world is slowly becoming more anti-Israeli as a growing number of countries begin to gang up on the Jewish state, including Turkey and Iran. Guess what the Kurds should do? Side with Israel, and the Kurds will be the long-term winners. Forget the EU because they're not interested. The only European countries that cared a bit about Kurds were France and Germany. But Britain doesn't care and unfortunately Britain is the most important figure in the EU. So forget the EU and forget the US, who for many years knew about innocent Kurds getting killed but did nothing to help your people out.

Side with Israel, be opportunistic in politics. Let everyone want your signature, let every side chase after you. Always put yourselves in the advantageous position, let others negotiate terms with you, not the other way around. That's the only way for the Kurds to survive. Do not disarm. Name me one country that got its independence from disarmed protesters. Name me one. Every nation had to shed its blood in order to get independence. Nobody got it with dialogue or protests, that is fiction.

The Welsh were incorporated into a union with the Scots and English for hundreds of years. You're comparing that to Turkey?

Disarming the Kurdish fighters will be the biggest mistake the Kurds ever make. If you're supporting this then you've been blinded.
