Renowned Kurdish film director Taha Karimi died in a tragic accident on Wednesday 29th May. Taha directed several films, including ‘Storm’, ‘Border Life’ and ‘White Mountains’ and his contribution to the nascent Kurdish film industry was outstanding.

Taha’s films were screened at international festivals in India, Dubai, Germany and Italy.

He was working on his latest, One Thousand and One Apples’, a film about the Anfal tragedy.

This is a huge loss to the Kurdish film industry which need more people of Taha’s calibre.

“I Am a White Mercenary” was his latest film, which is about Saeid Jaf, who claims to be a ‘Kurdish Schindler’ responsible for saving thousands of Kurds during Saddam Hussein’s infamous Al Anfal genocide in 1988.

His credits also include “Oil, the Cancer of My City”, and “White Mountains”.
