Kurdish bodybuilder shines at the World Championships

A Kurdish athlete took part in the 2013 Men's World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships organized by the World Amateur Bodybuilding Association (WABBA).
Nazar Ahmad Hussein secured first place in the Small Men Category and took a gold medal at the Championships. To the geat joy of the Kurdish people, Hussein was also selected by the organizers as the Championships? overall winner.
The event was held in Hungary on June 15-16, and athletes from 27 countries participated in the competition. A delegation headed by Ahmad Rambo from the Kurdistan Amateur Bodybuilding Association participated in the event, representing the Kurdistan Region. The gold medal was not unexpected, given that Hussein has done very well in various events in the past.
The participation of the Kurdish bodybuilder in the 2013 Men's World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships was largely due to the efforts of the famous Kurdish bodybuilder, Ahmad Rambo, who has recently named the WABBA President for Asia and the Kurdistan Region.
?Hussein has become a powerful competitor. He attracted the attention of the judges with his muscles and with his perfect performances on stage,? Rambo said.
The results of the categories were as following:
Small Category
Ahmad Nazar from the Kurdistan Region took first place; Kornel Bohos from Hungary came second; Tibor Fuzesi from Hungary was third; Pantelis Stavroulakis from Greece became fourth; Francesco Osto from Italy secured fifth place; and Julio Portet from Spain was sixth.
Medium Category
Laszlo Rezso Zombori from Hungary took first place; Davide Zambaldi from Italy came second; Achilleas Veshaj from Greece was third; Khalid Hussein from Iraq came in fourth; Carmelo Zuccarello from Italy secured fifth place; and Najm Peeshkawt Nimat from Iraq was sixth.
Tall Category
Kai-Jacob Lyons from the United Kingdom took first place; Manuel Greifenberg from Italy was placed second; Davide Galleani from Italy was third; Oleg Iakymenko of the Ukraine came fourth; Altalabani Pieshtewan Saleh Najm from Iraq was fifth; and Adrian Parra from Spain came sixth.
X-Tall Category
Krisztian Bereczi from Hungary took first place; Cedric Grand from Switzerland came second; Kelvin Leigh Hinde from the United Kingdom was third; Ignazio Valente from Italy came fourth; Roberto Falso from Italy was placed fifth; and Attila Simon from Hungary came sixth.
As the champion, Hussein was introduced as being from Kurdistan, carrying the Kurdish Flag. Rambo believes this to be a great achievement not only for bodybuilders, but for the entire Kurdish people.
Last year, another two Kurdish top bodybuilders, Sardar Ismail and Omer Faisal, won gold medals in their respective categories in the same competition, which was held in Italy in 2012. However, Ismail and Faisal competed as Iraqis at that time, rather than representing Kurdistan. Ismael secured first place in the Small Men Category, winning a gold medal at the championship and being named the overall winner.
These excellent performances by Kurdish bodybuilders in the World Championships prove that the sport of bodybuilding is highly developing in the Kurdistan Region.
The World Amateur Body Building Association (WABBA) was founded in 1976 by the legendary French bodybuilder, Serge Nubret. The association joined the UK-based National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) in 1977, but left again in 1983. The WABBA holds both World and European championships.
The athletes who compete in the Men Body category are delimited not by weight, but by height. There are three exceptions to this: the Super J24 (which is similar to the former Juniors category in all except the age limit), Super Masters and Masters categories, all of which are defined by the age of the athletes.
