A Kurdish conference to be organized in Iraq’s northern city Irbil has given Syrian president Bashar Assad the cold shoulder as the preparation committee of the Kurdish National Conference refused to invite representatives from Baath regime in Syria.
Kamal Kerkuki, a member of the conference’s prep committee from Patriotic Union of Kurdistan , told an AA correspondent that they did not invite anyone from Syria’s ruling Baath regime but instead representatives from the opposition were invited to the conference that is due on 15-17 September.
Kerkuki said they had no relations with the Baath regime but with Syrian opposition, adding that Syrian Kurds are a part of the conference.
Kerkuki added that they invited people from Turkey too and author Ismail Besikci was one of the names to appear at the conference as a much respected person in the solution process in Turkey.
Masood Barzani, leader of Kurdish administration in Iraq, is likely to chair the conference that will host 600 delegates and more than 300 guests from Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq
