A total of five explosions targeted the General Security Office building along 60 meter street in Erbil around mid-day today. The death toll reported from security forces has varied from 2 to 6 deaths and there are reports at least 36 people have been injured. But the Governor of Erbil, Newzad Hadi, reported that 4 security forces had been killed in the tragic attacks. Rudaw has discovered that the attackers detonated one bomb and then came in disguised as medical personnel, showing that the attack was well coordinated by the perpetrators. It is unclear at this point whether an ambulance was used as a car bomb, or exploded as a result of other car bombs detonated in the area. Plumes of smoke could be seen above the city near the building, and when Rudaw English approached the site, another explosion occurred and fire streamed into the air and the shock wave moved through the streets. Men, women and children could be seen running for their lives as the explosion took place when Rudaw English was on scene. As soon as the explosion occurred, gun shots could be heard and cars reversing in an attempt to escape the chaotic situation. Security forces were also able to diffuse another car bomb before it could be detonated, according to reports. Sporadic gunfire could be heard along the streets near 60 meter road as Asayish forces clashed with unknown armed men. Security forces have issued a warning to all citizens in Erbil not to get close to the explosion areas and also all transportation into and out of Erbil, the Kurdish capital, has been halted. Those injured in the blast have been taken to West Hospital. Reports of families of victims in the attacks could be seen near the attack sites, but now all areas have been cordoned off as security forces stabilize the area. It is unknown who is responsible for the attack, but it has shocked the Kurdish community, a Region that has been relatively peaceful in the years following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. -

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Six people were killed and more than 40 others injured in Erbil today after suicide bombers tried to storm the main security headquarters, said a statement by the security office.
“A minibus driven by a suicide bomber tried to storm the security office in Erbil, but he was fired upon and killed by the guards, and as a result the vehicle exploded,” read a stamen from the Erbil security.
Kurdistan’s Minister of Health Rekawt Rashid said in a press conference that most of the victims are from the police and security forces.
“Immediately following the explosion four suicide bombers armed with weapons and hand grenades attacked and tried to enter the security headquarters, but they were killed by the guards,” read the security statement.
The attacks happened at 1:24 p.m. according to security officials.
Minutes after the first attack, said the official statement, a second suicide bomber had arrived at their headquarters, driving an ambulance packed with explosives.
But the health minister denied that any of their ambulances had exploded. One ambulance was damaged in the attack while trying to rescue the victims, he said.
The Kurdistan Region has been the safest part of Iraq, escaping much of the violence that raged the rest of the country since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
“Our forces have undoubtedly foiled many such plans in the past six years,” said Erbil security.
Today’s attacks came as the Kurdistan Region was celebrating a successful parliamentary election.

What else you can expect from islam other than hate, killings, massacres? It is time for our people to understand that islam is not a religion, it is a barbarian terroristic ideology.

From reading comments, it seems that there are many Islam haters in SK, they blame everything that happens to them on Islam, how ignorant. This was by some terrorists.

If they were muslims, hindus or atheist, it does nnit matter, this is was obviously done for a political reason, and to blame a religion for it is beyond ignorant, its pure stupidity.

It might be Syrian reprisals, also, against KRG support to rebellion.

It might be, and their are many other suspects, I think.it was probably Iraqis that did it, but because some Islamic parties won a few votes in Kurdistan, the haters are already out blaming them, instead of using their heads.

I hope that they find out who did this quickly before it turns into an anti-Islamic vendetta

No need for insults heval , because it is too easy to insult others and they can do the same as easily . True islam does not exist and frankly it never existed in the history as far as I know , but some muslim take mental comfort by saying this is not true Islam which is Ok i guess . My mentally ill neighbor believes that there is a bird flying constantly over his head , so who ami to question him .If he believes that then it must be real for him .
Islam is not a religion only , it is politics also hence "the islamic political parties " or is that too hard to understand ?

It will turn this way and this event will be used by other political parties to deter people from voting for Islamic parties .

I did not mean to insult heval, sorry. And I am tired of this complex about Islam that many people have especially from SK. But atleast they should not drag us all in this war against Islam that they are being doped into by somes powers and groups. We should just mind iur own business

I do hope not - these people are a law unto themselves - as far as I see they have nothing to do with Islam - they are all just a bunch of crazy killers

ISIS program is – as its name tells – an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. So I guess that a free Kurdistan is not in their plans. And KRG, with its constitutional freedom of religions is a nightmare for Jihadists.
But I am not sure that Iran or Syria are not really behind that attack.
