ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Shravn Muslim, the son of Syrian-Kurdish leader Salih Muslim, has been killed in fighting with al-Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group said.

ISIS said its snipers had specifically singled out the son of Salih Muslim, leader of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which dominates in Syria’s Kurdish regions and has been involved in fierce battles with Islamist fighters and units from the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The leaders of PYD's armed wing, known as the People's Defense Units (YPG), also confirmed the ISIS claim, saying that Shravn Salih was killed in clashes with Islamist fighters in Girespi.

The YPG, which has deployed thousands of disciplined and trained fighters along the border areas of Kurdish Syria to counter the advance of Islamist groups, said that Salih's son was killed on Wednesday morning.

The PYD dominates the Kurdish areas of Syria and has refused to join the war against the regime of Bashar Assad or the inner fighting between various Syrian opposition groups.

Muslim has visited Turkey several times in the past few months to negotiate with Turkish officials and perhaps pave the way for the creation of a Kurdish autonomous region in northeastern Syria.

Clashes between the PYD and Islamist groups have displaced tens of thousands of Kurdish and some Arab families. Most have crossed the border into the Kurdistan Region where they have settled in refugee camps near Erbil.

This attack was a psychological strike, they must of had some intellegence from within or from a major power.

Condolences to the family of this young hero. I wonder how Mr. Muslim can deal with all this, must be very strong.

The YPG can attack Raqqa and wipe their nest out, then establish control of the region. Assads plan all along has been to sandwish himself between the Kurds.

I agree with you heval, this looks like the time to accept help from KRG now, the especially the rojava peshmergas. They can help clear out the contested areas, and expand control to them, Rojava should be much bigger.

* this alan is terrible at knowing the identity of people  you do not sound like talsor.

Yah definitely. as it stands we really don't have control over much territory and Rojava is split in half. YPG can defend the areas under their command now, but I don't know if they'll be able to expand any more in their current form.

*lol he's paranoid and anyone that disagrees with him, he thinks they're taslor. Soon enough everyone will leave his site.

I agree.

- he is paranoid as hell, and does not like anyone to dissagree with him. And if he just accused you of being talsor, then consider yourself lucky, it could of been much worse.

The mother of Shervan on his son's corpse. She says that she is thankful to her son for bestowing her a medal of honour by his martyrdom. Shervan was killed yesterday in clashes with Al-Qaida affiliates in Syria in defense of the Kurdish territories, which is reffered to as western Kurdistan. She asks the crowd not to grief and that she will take up arms for his son. These Islamist groups are backed by Turkey, the Islamic countries and surprisingly enough, the West.

I think you are right - it does seem as though it was a psychological strike - they would have had to have someone close to him passing information

I hope by now all these fighters realise the dangers of mobile phones
