COLOGNE, Germany – A Kurdish resident of Germany has founded his own political party, saying he did so after losing faith in all existing parties.
Robin Ferman, who lives in Bielefeld, says he will give everyone a chance to join his People’s Movement for the Awareness and Protection of Society (BBZ).
Ferman told Rudaw that he created BBZ after losing faith in other parties.
“The parties will do anything, including lying and fraud only to win the elections,” he said.
Ferman, a former writer who used the pen name Fuad Sipan, says the BBZ is already working on running in next year’s local election in the Nordrhein-Westfalen region.
The founder of BBZ says that in the past some new parties such as the alternative Die Piraten party had raised his hopes for change. But “when you closely study these new parties you will see that they aren’t any different from the other ones,” he complained.
“All parties and their representatives call themselves democratic, but democracy and honesty should come together,” says Ferman. “People would like their politicians to be honest as well.”
According to BBZ’s initial statements, its focus is mainly on the Bielefeld area.
With the largest Kurdish population in Europe, Germany is no stranger to Kurds in its local politics.
In last month’s elections, 10 Kurds ran on various party lists, but none won the race.
Ferman says that he hopes to make a difference by running in next year’s local elections.
Before founding his own party, Ferman had been a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), as well as the leftist Die Linke and Die Piraten.
