GENERAL COMMANDER OF THE YPG SIPAN HEMO: ISIS HAS BEEN DEFEATED, SO TOO WILL THE TRENCH-DIGGERS! FEATURED
In an interview with Firat News Agency, SIpan Hemo, the General Commander of the People's Defence Units (YPG), has said that "ISIS has suffered a heavy defeat and this will lead to its withering away. It is no coincidence that the trenches that are being dug around Rojava were done so at this time. Just as the ISIS has been defeated, the powers behind the digging of the trenches will be defeated too". Sipan Hemo added that "by digging trenches, the KDP is doing what the colonialists were unable to do in Kurdistan".
Sipan Hemo continued "After our people declared their self-administration in Rojava, the dimensions of the attacks against the Kurds changed; we as the YPG foresaw this and were prepared. A democratic administration for not only the Kurds but all the peoples of Syria and the region was formed; we knew that this would upset the colonialists of Kurdistan: Turkey, Syria and Iran. Subsequently, on the 10th of March, ISIS attacked the town of Kobane on an unprecedented scale. At first it was said that they were affiliated to Al-Qaeda, however, in a short time we could see that their style was different to that of Al-Qaeda. Most of their fighters are from outside of Syria. ISIS first attacked the Kurds in 2013, in the towns of Afrin and Cizira. At first, the FSA supported the ISIS in their fight against the Kurds. However, after the FSA and ISIS began to fight each other, the FSA, who at first supported ISIS, was removed from ISIS controlled areas. When ISIS attacked Kobane it realised that the YPG was different to the FSA. In the first few days ISIS knew that it couldn't overpower the YPG but it had to fight because there was a massive preparation for war. All four sides of Kobane was surrounded, this led them to believe that they could take Kobane. However, at this moment I can clearly say that this plan has been defeated. Between 10-19 March, the YPG was faced with the most intense fighting since the beginning of the revolution. 12 of our fighters were martyred, but ISIS lost hundreds, we still have most of their dead. Kobane became the grave of ISIS!"
Sipan Hemo also said that "ISIS will now wither away as it has been unsuccessful in its aims. The ISIS operation was a joint operation by Iran, Syria and Turkey. Although this may sound outrageous, ISIS fighters were easily crossing the border from Turkey to attack Kobane; this was done openly in front of the eyes of the Turkish military. 1200 Iranians with Syrian identities are amongst the ranks of ISIS. ISIS was secretly formed by the Iranian and Syrian state; there are leaked documents that openly state this.
Finally, Sipan Hemo expressed his disgust at the digging of the trenches by the KDP: "The digging of these trenches are a part of the plan to suffocate the Kurdish will embodied by the self-administration. These trenches are aiming to complete the job that the ISIS miserably failed in. It is no coincidence that the building of these trenches coincided with the defeat of ISIS. However, the powers behind the digging of these trenches should know that the Kurdish people have tasted freedom, and in no way will they give it up! The makers of dirty plans against the Kurdish people are doomed in the face of the free will of the Kurdish people."
