The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior has ordered the arrest of a man who killed a rare jaguar in the mountains of the Halabja province.

Recently, a Kurdish person published a photo of a dead jaguar on his personal Facebook account, claiming that he had killed the animal on Balamboi Mountain in Halabja province.

Deputy Minister Jalal Kareem said that the Interior Ministry has ordered the forestry department to find the guilty person and arrest him.

Jaguars are rare animals in the Kurdistan Region and few have been spotted in recent years.

Stupid man… Rare fauna is one of Kurdistan treasure and a part of Earth legacy. Hunters are really a plague. X(

I am glad that the government are taking this seriously - I hope that this person is caught and severely punished - Kurdistan has had more than enough of outsiders bringing destruction - it does not need Kurds destroying it's treasures from within X(

SLÊMANÎ, Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— A picture detailing the death of a unique jaguar was recently uploaded on Facebook by an unidentified person.

Soon after the photo was posted, other people begin to share the photo on their Facebook pages and through other social media sites.

The photo‌'s release has caused an uproar, with many mixed reactions. Numerous social media users condemned the act, stating that the nature and wildlife in the Kurdistan region must be protected, while others praised the act as ‘heroic‌'.

The unidentified gunman said that he killed the jaguar on Balambo Mountain, which lies in the Halabja Province, and that it is a one kind of jaguar in the Kurdistan region.

The Interior Minister of the Kurdistan region urged security forces to find the unidentified gunman and deliver him to the courthouse.

It is also worth noting that last week an unguarded lion was transported by pickup truck from Duhok to Hewlêr [Erbil], the capital city

I wonder how shooting a panther is 'heroic' (I suppose the killer did not attack it with a knife or bare hands). Moreover, panthers are shy, do not attack except if they are trapped, and you have really to track them for killing. So it is cowardice, not heroism.

What an idiot...the middle-east used to have it's own species of lions and other feline predators and species, before idiots made them extinct. Why kill something that is very rare? What's so glorious about shooting a defenseless animal with a lethal projectile from 200-300 meters? They know they could never defeat the animal when it's position to without taking extreme precautions(creating body armor from expensive materials) so they resort to cheap tactics. People have very little respect for wild animals , because they're so easy to kill. Wild animals as species have a right to thrive and live, without being molested and killed on the whims of stupid humans. Our prehistoric ancestors killed wild animals only because they were a real source of food or because they were a threat. They didn't kill them out of some false self-esteem and false glory.

If I have my way, I take this murderer to the jaguars to take care of him. I hope they put him in prison for ever.

It is really disappointing to see this beautiful creature murdered for no reason.
