Happy Kurdish National Flag Day

Historical documents verify that the current Kurdish flag was first designed in 1919 and thereafter was adopted by many Kurdish dominions and emirates during the early 20th sentury. After the Kurdish flag was adopted by the Kurdish Social Body in 1920, the Kurds have been perceiving it as a symbol of their dignity.

Mustafa Pasha Yamulki was one of the founders of the Kurdish Body that recognized this flag. It is not sure when exactly the Kurds designed their first flag. However, given the fact that Kurds have been residing in Kurdistan for nearly seven thousand which, throughout this time, has seen the rise and demise of many Kurdish dominions and emirates, it is legitimate to assume that they must have come with symbols and insignia of their own.
Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan celebrate the National Flag Day which was approved by the parliament in the 17th of December 1999. Since then, Kurds celebrate this day widely every year.
