7,000 films will be screened at the festival, 55 of which will be short listed for awards.
Actors and actresses from Kurdistan and several regional and Western countries are taking part.
The Rudaw Media Network is a sponsor of the Sulaimani Film Festival and its reporting crews in the city will be covering the event.
The festival will last four days, during which a number of local and international films will be screened.
