Eiffel replica erected in Erbil’s Minara Park

Erbil is the latest of one of 30 cities around the world that has an Eiffel tower look-alike decorating its skyline.

The French Consul General in Erbil, Dominique Mas, was “very surprised” to hear the tower was being built. He described it as “nice,” if a little smaller than the original.

The Eiffel tower in Paris is 324 metres high and visitors can reach the top by elevator or stairs. In contrast, tourists cannot access the top of Erbil’s 11-metre replica

Kurds are crazy about Eiffel Tower : it is the most beloved monument for them, a second Kaaba Each time you say "Paris", they collapse in adoration : Ahhhh Pariis, Eiffel Tower…

The most curious is that in all change offices, you have an Eiffel Tower, of all sizes, from 20 cm to 1 meter. That's strange because the main international money there is the dollar US, not euro. So I am sure that the Eiffel Tower in Erbil will have a great success… more than the 12th century minaret which gives it sname to the park (a remain of a mosque built by Muzaffer ad Din Gökburi, a Turkmen who married a sister of Saladin).

Everyone who goes to Paris buys one

I do not know anyone who has a mini Statue of Liberty - even those who are frequent visitors to the US

Well done Erbil, you will have lots of visitors wanting to have their photos taken standing next to it
