Another thing you will notice is the change that has taken place in recent years

Not many years ago, Turkish women had a much happier freer lifestyle

The country as a whole was much more like European countries

There was a time when you would never have seen a burka and seldom seen women (apart from elderly widows) wearing head scarves

Now Turkey is turning into a Sunni Islamic State X(

Now I´ve seen two more from youtube with English subtitles, perhaps they´re well-known for all you others already:

New York'ta Beş Minare (2010)
Suprised to find well-known actors like Danny Glover and Gina Geerson in it - but it doesn´t really help. Two Turkish Secret Service agents hunting a suspected terrorist cell leader in the US.
Not very good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AywFVNXoIXk

Then I liked this better:

Gecenin Kanatları (2009)
Story about a young woman who is involved with an underground movement and comes to Istanbul to perform a bombing. But she meets a young man... and there´s your film.
Quite good.

WOW

Mahsun Kırmızıgül :x :x :x :x :x

Mahsun Kırmızıgül is the SEXIST Kurd in the entire word

The most famous Kurdish singer there has ever been - now turned actor/director/writer

1,000 times more famous than Danny Glover could ever hope to be

I am delighted you have found such a gem of a film :ymapplause:

Here is his most famous song :x

Glad you liked it. And yes, I think Mahsum was the higlight of the film. I never heard of him so I Googled him and found out that he's a famous Kurdish composer/actor. (He reminds me abit of the French actor Daniel Auteuil!)

Interesting plot also when you consider current events - the Turkish government trying to get an religious leader turned over from the US? And they're accusing him of terrorism?

Life copying fiction =))

Perhaps this film is where Erdogan got the idea from :-?

He probably thought it was a brilliant idea to hold a pretend coup, blame some totally innocent person in America, while getting rid of everyone in Turkey who might prevent he gaining more power X(

Another little pearl, "Usta"/"The Master" (2009). Nice film about a mechanic who has a dream about building his own airplane:

Found this little pearl - "Limonata" (2015). A Turkish road movie about two guys who find out that they are brothers. I guess it is not a very original storyline, you have a feeling that you have seen it all before but I highly recommend it. Drama but a lot of humor also:

Have a nice sunday all,

Recently, I have been watching far too much news articles on the slaughter taking place in the middle east :ymsick:

In-between the news items I have been watching a fun series called 'Lucifer'

I thoroughly recommend watching it :ymhug:

Not a new film but defintely a favourite of mine! "Untergang" or "Downfall" from 2004.

It was showed on television last night and I re-watched it. Powerful movie about the last days of The Third Reich and also a reminder of what hatred, tyranny and charismatic leaders can do to a country.

I liked Untergang, also. Bruno Ganz was wonderful in that play.

Currently I watch a very good French series (and it is not a common thing to have a good French series) : Le Bureau des Légendes, just entitled The Bureau in English :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bureau_(TV_series)

Eric Rochant had already made a excellent movie about Intelligence Services (MOSSAD in the movie) : Les patriotes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Patriots_(film)

And in the same time I watch the 3rd season of Twin Peaks. I can't tell to people if they would like or not, Twin Peaks provoke 2 sorts of reactions : adoration or detestation
