Freedom for Öcalan campaign arrests
SİİRT (DİHA) - Studies have been initiated in Siirt within the scope of signature campaign called "Freedom for Öcalan". The signatures stands have been seized by police with the claim of "making propaganda of organization" with the photo of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Four activists have been detained.
The campaign of "Freedom for Öcalan" is spreading despite all the inhibitions and oppressions of AKP government. The Party of Democratic Regions (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) provincal organizations launched studies to collect more signatures in Siirt within the scope of signature campaign conducted for the freedom of PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Seizing with claim of propaganda
The signatures stands at Cumhuriyet Square and Güres Avenue have been seized by police with the claim of "making propaganda of organization" with the photo of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Four activists İHD (Human Rights Association) Siirt Branch Executive Emin Köneş, Municipality Assembly Member Muhuttin Timurtaş, Ali Demir and a woman have been detained. Upon the application by Siirt Public Prosecution Office, Siirt Crimial Court of Peace ordered "seizing the photo on grounds of making propaganda of terrorist organization".
Aksu: They want to create provocation
IHD Siirt Branch Head Zana Aksu reacted to police and court pressure and condemned the arrests. Aksu noted the attitude was illegal and ublawful. Aksu added: "The detainees must be released as soon as possible. Police and court want to create provocation. Just yestersay, they detained 35 children here and released this morning. Now, four other were detained today. We want an end to this provocation."
