Regional Reactions to U.S. Strikes
on Iranian Nuclear Facilities

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — A wave of official responses swept across the Middle East on Sunday, June 22, 2025, following the United States' coordinated airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The region's key players, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and Yemen's Houthi government, issued urgent calls for de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomacy

Saudi Arabia: Reaffirming Sovereignty and Political Resolution

In a statement released by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia voiced grave concern over the developments in Iran, particularly the U.S. targeting of nuclear facilities.

"The Kingdom reaffirms the content of its statement issued on 13/6/2025, in which it condemned and denounced the violation of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran," read the statement. "It expresses the urgent need to exert all efforts to exercise restraint, calm tensions, and avoid escalation."

The Kingdom further called on the international community to "intensify its efforts under these sensitive circumstances to reach a political solution that ensures an end to the crisis and opens a new chapter towards achieving security and stability in the region."

Qatar: A Plea for Diplomacy and Humanitarian Responsibility

Doha echoed similar concerns, with the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs warning that the situation risks spiraling into a humanitarian catastrophe.

"Qatar regrets the deterioration of the situation following the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities... The Ministry warns that the current dangerous escalation will lead to catastrophic consequences at both regional and international levels," the statement said.

The statement emphasized the need to halt all military operations and reaffirmed Qatar’s support for resolving disputes through peaceful means, urging all parties to return to diplomatic channels.

Iraq: "Condemns the recent airstrikes on nuclear facilities'

The Iraqi government has strongly condemned the recent airstrikes on nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, warning that such actions constitute a grave threat to regional peace and stability. In an official statement issued on Sunday, June 22, 2025, government spokesperson Basem al-Awadi emphasized Iraq’s rejection of military escalation and urged a return to diplomacy.

"The Iraqi government expresses its deep concern and condemnation of the targeting of nuclear facilities within the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and affirms that this military escalation represents a serious threat to peace and security in the Middle East region and poses grave risks to regional stability," al-Awadi said.

He reiterated Iraq’s principled opposition to the use of force in international relations and called for the protection of sovereign infrastructure. "Iraq reiterates its principled rejection of the use of force in international relations and calls for respect for the sovereignty of states and the non-targeting of their vital facilities, especially those under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and used for peaceful purposes."

The spokesperson stressed that military options cannot replace diplomatic engagement: "Iraq also stresses that military solutions cannot substitute for dialogue and diplomacy, and that the continuation of such attacks could lead to a dangerous escalation with consequences that extend beyond the borders of any one state and jeopardize the stability of the region and the world."

Al-Awadi issued a reminder about the long-term costs of conflict, urging international actors to prioritize stability. "Iraq reminds that wars leave behind nothing but destruction, and that the responsibility of major powers and international institutions should focus on preventing further crises—not igniting them."

He concluded with a call for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic engagement: "From its position of responsibility toward regional and international peace and stability, Iraq calls for immediate de-escalation, the urgent opening of diplomatic channels to contain the situation, and efforts to defuse the crisis in a way that ensures mutual security and respects international law and the Charter of the United Nations."

The statement was issued amid rising regional tensions following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, drawing widespread concern from regional governments and international observers.

Oman: Condemnation from a Key Mediator

Oman, a central mediator in the Iran-U.S. nuclear talks, issued a stern rebuke of the U.S. strikes. In a statement published by the official Oman News Agency, Muscat expressed "deep concern, denunciation, and condemnation of the escalation resulting from the direct air strikes launched by the United States on sites in the Islamic Republic of Iran."

As a longstanding neutral broker in regional diplomacy, Oman’s condemnation highlights the significant setback the strikes may pose to future nuclear negotiations.

Houthis in Yemen: Accusations of U.S. Warmongering

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi-led government in Sanaa described the U.S. attacks as a "blatant declaration of war."

In a strongly worded statement, the Houthis said: "The Trump administration's reckless aggression against three Iranian nuclear sites is a blatant declaration of war against the brotherly Iranian people. We declare our full support for the brotherly Iranian people."

The reaction signals possible further escalation in the region as Iran-aligned groups weigh responses to what they perceive as Western provocation.

As tensions mount, regional actors continue to urge diplomacy to avert further destabilization in an already volatile geopolitical landscape.

Russia, China, and Pakistan call for ceasefire

Russia, China, and Pakistan submit a draft resolution to the UN Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, as US escalation against Iran and strikes on nuclear facilities raise global alarm

Russia, China, and Pakistan submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council on Sunday calling for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” in the Middle East, in light of US military escalation against Iran and the attacks on its nuclear facilities.

According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in New York, the tripartite draft also calls for “protection of civilians, respect for international law, and engagement in dialogue and negotiations.”

'Today’s events a stain on UN history'

Meanwhile, Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, stressed that “what happened today is a stain on the history of the United Nations,” expressing appreciation for the members “who chose to stand on the right side of history and condemned the US aggression.”

During the emergency session held by the Security Council on Sunday, Iravani said, “After Israel failed to carry out the West’s dirty work, Trump had to implement the disgraceful agenda himself,” adding that “America has once again recklessly chosen to sacrifice its security just to protect Netanyahu.”

He affirmed that Iran’s armed forces will determine the timing, nature, and scale of an appropriate response.

Guterres: US bombing a dangerous turning point

UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that “the US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities marks a dangerous turning point in a region already plagued by crises,” warning of “another spiral of destruction” and retaliatory actions following the US strikes on Iran.

“Fighting must stop, and a return to serious and sustained talks over Iran’s nuclear program is needed,” Guterres added, reaffirming the UN’s readiness to support all possible efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

US attacks violate UN charter: China

Similarly, China’s envoy to the UN, Fu Cong, strongly condemned the US attacks on Iranian territory, describing them as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law, and warning against the escalation that threatens regional peace and stability.

Fu stressed that parties to the war, particularly "Israel," must agree to an immediate ceasefire. He affirmed that diplomatic avenues to resolve the Iranian nuclear crisis remain viable and urged Council members to approve the resolution and re-engage in dialogue.

US, Israel strike Iranian nuclear facilities

This comes after Donald Trump announced that the United States carried out what he described as a "very successful attack" on three Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Trump stated that a "full payload of bombs" was dropped on Fordow, the primary target, and confirmed that all US aircraft involved in the operation have exited Iranian airspace and are "safely on their way home."

He hailed the attack that targeted three Iranian nuclear sites as a “spectacular military success,” speaking from the White House Cross Hall.

“Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated,” Trump declared.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Saturday night that the United States’ military strike on the Iranian nuclear sites was carried out in full coordination with Israel, calling the operation a necessary response to what he described as an existential threat.

Scott Ritter: US strike on Iran 'a grand act of theater'

Speaking to Al Mayadeen, former US Marine officer and UN weapons inspector, Scott Ritter said that the US strike on Iran was "an act of theater, nothing more."

He explains that the attack targeted empty sites already bombed by Israel, achieving no damage to Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Claims Iran, Israel ceasefire reached

Amid conflicting reports, Donald Trump announces a comprehensive ceasefire between Iran and Israel, while Iran denies receiving any proposal. Meanwhile, the aggression on Tehran continues

While US President Donald Trump dramatically declared that a complete and total ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been agreed upon, a senior Iranian official denied Tehran's reception of any ceasefire proposal.

According to Trump, the ceasefire is set to begin in approximately six hours, once both sides complete their ongoing final missions, marking the end of what he has termed "THE 12 DAY WAR."

The ceasefire, Trump said, will proceed in two phases. Iran is set to initiate the first 12-hour period, during which Israel will allegedly remain peaceful. Following this, Israel will implement its 12-hour ceasefire, concluding a 24-hour span that will officially end the aggression. Trump emphasized that both sides are expected to act peacefully and respectfully throughout the process.

"This is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will," Trump stated. His announcement framed the ceasefire not only as a diplomatic milestone but also as a turning point for broader regional stability.

Trump commended the "stamina, courage, and intelligence" shown by Iran and “Israel” in reaching this agreement. He positioned the ceasefire as a testament to the power of diplomacy and strategic restraint.

Trump closed his statement with a sweeping message: "God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!"
Iranian official says 'no proposal received'

However, just minutes before the announcement, a senior Iranian official confirmed to CNN that Iran has not received any proposal for a ceasefire and "sees no reason for one," adding that the Islamic Republic will proceed with its operation until lasting peace is achieved.

Moreover, the official affirmed that any remarks by the Israeli occupation or the US will be considered "a deception" that aims to justify attacks on Iranian interests.

“At this very moment, the enemy is committing aggression against Iran, and Iran is on the verge of intensifying its retaliatory strikes, with no ear to listen to the lies of its enemies,” the official said.

Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Tehran also reported that no official Iranian sources confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement
Moreover, The New York Times said that an Israeli military spokesperson did not comment on questions regarding Trump's ceasefire announcement.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes continue to attack Iran, with the Israeli occupation forces issuing a warning to the residents of Tehran of an upcoming attack.

Claims of Qatari mediation emerge

Reuters, citing an unnamed official briefed on the matter, said that Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bun Abdulrahman al-Thani secured Tehran's agreement to a US proposal for a ceasefire.

According to the report, this came after Trump was able to secure Israel's agreement to the ceasefire. In turn, the US president "asked Doha's help persuading Tehran to also agree to the ceasefire."

PM Barzani Welcomes
Trump-Brokered Israel-Iran Ceasefire

Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, urging dialogue and restraint to avoid a broader regional conflict

“I welcome President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire,” Barzani wrote on X. “Restraint and dialogue are the only way forward. The region needs stability, respect for neighbors and partners, and decisions based on wisdom and responsible leadership.”

Trump announced the ceasefire late Monday night following a wave of hostilities between Israel and Iran that included missile and drone attacks, raising fears of an all-out regional war. The US-brokered truce was hailed as a diplomatic breakthrough aimed at curbing further escalation.

Speaking Tuesday morning before leaving for the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump confirmed the ceasefire remained in place but acknowledged reports of renewed hostilities. He expressed frustration with both parties and said he had spoken directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging restraint.

“We have to have Israel to calm down because they went on a mission this morning,” Trump told reporters. “I’ve got to get Israel to calm down.”

While Israeli media confirmed Trump’s call with Netanyahu, the president downplayed the severity of the alleged ceasefire violations. “I’m not sure they did it intentionally. They couldn’t rein people back,” he said, noting that a single rocket appeared to have been fired after the ceasefire deadline, prompting an Israeli response.

“I didn’t like the fact that Israel unloaded right after we made the deal,” he added. “They didn’t have to unload.”

Trump reiterated his commitment to preventing further escalation, saying he would personally work to calm tensions. “As soon as I get away from you, I’m going to see if I can stop it,” he told reporters.

Reflecting on the decades of animosity between Israel and Iran, Trump said, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Prime Minister Barzani’s remarks added regional support to Washington’s efforts to de-escalate, with the Kurdish leader emphasizing the importance of measured leadership amid volatile circumstances.
