Zarqawi in "Zab area"

I saw this story on Peyamner.com and I have a question:

"Today the American army confirmed that during a cooperative campaign with the Iraqi army in the Zab area captured very important elements from the Al- Zarqawi's group."
What do they mean by "Zab area"...as I understand it this refers to the Kurdish mountains and I find it hard to believe Zarqawi group would be hiding up there.
