Newroz 2014 to commence in Van and Batman
As the local elections approach the programme for celebrations of Newroz has been announced. The programme will begin in Van and Batman on 17 March.
Organising committees have been established in the provinces to coordinate activities and make the necessary legal applications for permission to hold Newroz celebrations.
In Diyarbakır the Newroz celebration will take place on 21 March and be the only Newroz celebration to take place that day. It has also been learned that the BDP-HDP that goes to visit PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on 8 March will read out his Newroz message on 21 March.
17 March
Newroz celebrations will commence in Van and Batman on 17 March. The celebration in Van will be attended by DTK c0-president Aysel Tuğluk, while the celebration in Batman will be attended by BDP co-president Selahattin Demirtaş. On the same day there will also be celebrations in Varto, Tekmen, Kızıltepe, Ergani, Kulp, Silopi and Şemdinli.
18 March
There will be celebrations in Mardin, Hakkari, Bingöl, Ardahan, Bismil, Çınar, Hazro, Eğil, Beşiri, Viranşehir, Cizre, Kurtalan, Doğubayazıt, Bulanık, Norşin, Karayazı and Hınıs. Aysel Tuğluk will attend the celebration in Mardin and Selahattin Demirtaş will be present in Hakkari.
19 March
On 19 March celebrations will take place in Muş, Bitlis, Siirt, Elazığ, Adıyaman, Tekirdağ, Osmaniye, Erzincan, Silvan, Dicle, Hani, Kozluk, Ceylanpınar, İdil, Yüksekova, Erciş, Nusaybin and Diyadin. Aysel Tuğluk will speak in Siirt, while Selahattin Demirtaş speaks in Yüksekova.
20 March
There will be celebrations in 16 centres on this day. In Şırnak, Iğdır, Erzurum, Maraş, Hatay, Malazgirt, Tatvan, Dersim, Pervari, Gürpınar, Gercüş, Suruç, Çukurca, Lice, Kocaköy and Çüngüş. Selahattin Demirtaş will be in Şırnak, while Aysel Tuğluk goes to Iğdır.
21 March
Only the city of Diyarbakır will host a Newroz celebration on this date. Over a million people are expected to join the celebration which will be attended by BDP co-president Demirtaş. Many international delegations are also expected to attend, details of which will be clarified in the coming days.
22 March
On 22 March there will be celebrations in Izmir, Mersin, Ağrı, Malatya, Manisa, Bursa, Kocaeli, Kırşehir and Çanakkale. Selahattin Demirtaş will attend the celebration in Izmir, while Aysel Tuğluk will be in Mersin.
23 March
The final day of Newroz celebrations will see events in Adana, Istanbul, Kars, Urfa, Antep, Denizli, Konya, Antalya, Ankara, Muğla, Eskişehir and Karakoçan. Selahattin Demirtaş will attend the celebration in Istanbul.
