After France, Barzani will meet the pope, in Italia.

Beside oil question and common trade, some people believe that Massoud Barzani make a turn in UE to test possible reactions to a Confederation status or even a possible independence of Kurdistan.

3+1 countries has a serious weight in UE foreign policy : Germany, France and UK + USA.

USA will be opposed to any sort of Kurdish emancipation.

Sometimes he let them, especially when he meet serious and annoying people like French :-D

I think that when he travel in Western countries, he adopt Western clothes, but in Middle East he likes to dress himself as a Kurd.

Confirmed : KRG's head of DFR: President Barzani told French president that Kurds will have other options if Baghdad would not change its policy (source Rudaw) and France would have promised to support Kurdistan Region in the next stage.

I would not trust Hollande too much, he never respect his promises, except concerning homosexual marriage

Here is the official statement of France (with pictures) :

http://www.institutkurde.org/info/entre ... 50762.html

Translation :

The President of the Republic received Mr. Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

On this occasion, he informed him the concerns of France about the deterioration of security in Iraq. He also expressed his hopes that the electoral process could be completed in a transparent manner and in accordance with constitutional deadlines.

The Head of State also expressed his support for the establishment of a government of reconciliation in Iraq*, in a spirit of unity in the aim that all the communities would be fairly represented ** for they face the challenges of the country .

He also stressed the willingness of France to strengthen its ties with the Kurdistan Region, in the frame of the federal*** institutions of Iraq.

* Bad for Maliki.
** Good for Kurds.
*** Reminds that Iraq is a FEDERAL state and not centralized one.

Conclusion : If we compare with the diplomatic language of France some years ago, when it insisted only on the 'Iraq sovereignty', 'Iraqi integrity', Iraqi State, etc.,. that is a slight and subtle change. Maliki's support to Bashar Al Asad serves Kurds in UE. His actions to cut the budget of the KRG also is a bad decision for Bagdad because it took the initiative of separatism, in a certain way.
