My favorite part of this story: They wanted to buy two more bombs but couldn’t afford it until one of their girlfriend’s got her welfare payment.

'Two men indicted last week on federal weapons charges allegedly had plans to bomb the Gateway Arch — and to kill St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson — the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Sources close to the investigation were uncertain whether the men had the capability to carry out the plans, although the two allegedly did buy what they thought was a pipe bomb in an undercover law enforcement sting.

The men wanted to acquire two more bombs, the sources said, but could not afford to do it until one suspect’s girlfriend’s Electronic Benefit Transfer card was replenished. […]

One of the defendants’ plans, the sources said, included planting a bomb inside the observation deck at the top of the Arch. It was not clear how they could have gotten a bomb past airport-style security screening for rides up.

It also wasn’t clear, the sources said, whether the men intended to use bombs as the means to kill McCulloch and Jackson. Both officials became targets of national criticism and protests after Brown’s killing.

Local and federal authorities have served search warrants at two buildings, one in the 2500 block of Hampton Avenue in St. Louis and the other in the 1500 block of Reale Avenue in north St. Louis County, but the associated documents were sealed.'

I remember the old style Black Panthers who actually did some good



The Black Panthers came about as a direct result of the Vietnam War

A disproportionately high number of young blacks were sent to fight in Vietnam

They were thought good enough to die for their country but on returning to America - many wounded - they found that they were still treated as third class citizens

Basicly the American government - who were more than happy to use blacks as cannon fodder - did not know what to do with self-assured proud young returnees who had fought and died side by side with white soldiers

The black returnees were not treated as the heroes they felt they were - they were returning to segregation and open hostility

The Black Panther Movement grew out of need for help that the government were not providing

They helped the returning soldiers to find employment

They opened up soup kitchens and fed the poor

They provided shelter

They often gave school children their only hot meal of the day

Their people were responsible for the setting up of many black projects - advice services - book shops - community centres

They also had a base in South London

The New Black Panthers are different and much more dangerous

Let us NOT FORGET the growth of the even more DANGEROUS Black Muslims whoes teachings are VERY similar to those of the Islamic State

If the Black Muslims ever affiliated to the Islamic State America would have one heck of a problem

In black communities where drugs and gang violence run rife the Black Muslims bring harmony - they help the young blacks to get off drugs and alcohol - they teach black youths to dress smart and be proud - they hate white people

We have Black Muslims in England and they have always been polite to me

I have met many black leaders and I believe the Black Muslims to be an extremely dangerous group

Their used to be some very caring black leaders in England but not anymore

RIP Renee Webb a great man who fought for England in WW2 and returned to spend his life helping black youths in England - my teacher my friend - one of the most highly respected Black Gentlemen in England who spent many a Sunday on his soapbox at Hyde Park Corner (the only place in England where people are allowed to speak freely) Renee Webb sadly missed never forgotten

The New Black Panthers have been denounced by some of the original Black Panthers I believe- and they are also affiliated with the Nation of Islam and the followers of Elijah Muhammad, which isn't a good thing.

I don't know much of the original Black Panthers except that they were one of the counterculture groups to come about during the 1960s, a little before my time, and that there was a white counterpart to it called the White Panthers.

What are people's feeling in America?

Hard to say; most people indifferent to Muslims simply because there aren't a lot of them here- maybe 1% of the population at most as compared to about 70%-70% of the population being Christian. Muslims generally like to live here because it's a religiously pluralistic nation which guarantees freedom of religious worship even despite the overwhelming influence of the various Christian denominations (there are 80 million Catholics alone here for example- that's about 1/4 of the population of the U.S.).

The way religion is handled in America- that the government takes no official stance on religion even though the unspoken assumption is and always has been that the U.S. is a Christian nation- means that inter-religious conflicts are almost non-existent here and religious bigotry is generally a thing of the past (although I've encountered a few unpleasant Protestants who still are Catholic-hating bigots; Catholics were once second-class citizens here especially in the colonial period- in NY we couldn't even vote ). One can be a perfectly good Catholic or Muslim or agnostic or what have you and also be a perfectly good U.S. citizen due to Church and State being totally separate things (unlike, say, in a caliphate or some of the post-Reformation kingdoms in Europe where the ruler was also the head of the national church). Americans generally hate bigots, fanatics, and so on. But I'll add this.. There's a very vocal minority of clowns here that will shrilly go on about racism, homohobia, and all of the favorite catchphrases of the agitators, i.e. Catholic priest, Father O'Mally, points out that homosexuality is considered sinful (along with many, many other things) and the agitators turn it into 'Backwards white heteropatriachial priest wants to put all LGBT people in concentration camps! Froth at the mouth!' Idiots. The grievance culture (i.e. people living life merely to be offended by something) exists alive and well here- and I'd call this the largest source of hatred here more than things like Islamophobia There's also a minority of religious bigots and shit-stirrers like, say, Fred Phelps (the Westboro Baptist Church/ God Hates Fags guy who used to picket the funerals of dead homosexuals, U.S. dead soldiers, etc. before he died and went to hell) but they generally exist on the fringe- although 'pastor' Terry Jones comes to mind as a hater of Muslims (he's the guy who made a disturbance a few years ago by burning qurans, putting the quran on 'trial', etc.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dove_World ... ontroversy).

As I've said generally the crazies are 1) in the minority; 2) largely ignored but known for sensationalism (they like attention). Rabble-rousers have been in America since the very beginning sadly.

Tolerance of diverse religions (or no religions) has kept America largely free of the kind of religious bigotry that you see even today in the Old War (and this was intentional).
