Germans oppose circumcision and new mosques: survey

A new survey in Germany has revealed that many Germans are against circumcision of children and also they oppose construction of mosques in the country.

A new survey has revealed that a large number of Germans are against circumcision of children and many also want construction of mosques in Germany to be limited.

The Berlin Institute for Empirical Research on Integration and Migration, a non-governmental organization, released the figures at the launch of their new report "Germany after immigration" at a press conference Wednesday.

The findings in the report were made after surveying 8,270 people.

According to the report, 60.4 percent of Germans did not want children to be circumcised and 42.2 percent wanted the construction of mosques in their country to be limited.

Also, 26.7 percent of Germans expressed the opinion that "The Muslim are more aggressive than us." Moreover, 25.7 percent of respondents said they were against the expression, "We have to show more respect to Muslim."

Some Germans, around 20.1 percent of them, also described the demand of Muslims in the country for more rights as "insolence."

The research also found that 37.8 percent of Germans thought a woman with headscarf could not be a German.

According to Germany's Statistical Institute, there are an estimated four million Muslims in Germany; Islam is the second biggest religion in the country after Christianity.

The German states of Bremen, Hamburg, and Hessen have legally recognized Islam as a religion, while Bremen and Hamburg have penned a state agreement with Muslim minorities for their recognition.

Germans support 'religion lessons' in schools

A big majority of Germans have supported the idea of teaching “religion lessons” at German schools.

In Germany's mostly Muslim-populated regions, 68.5 percent of Germans have given support for "religion lesson" at German schools; on the other hand, 28.4 percent of Germans have objected to such lessons.

Germany’s Integration Minister Aydan Ozoguz, who is of Turkish origin, said that they would take into consideration the institute’s findings.

According to the institute's website, the Berlin Institute for Integration and Migration Research at the Humboldt University of Berlin develops basic scientific principles and empirical data aimed at providing a factual basis for debate on integration issues in Europe.

I am 100% against the circumcision of children

It is wrong to take away a child's right to decide - and wrong to indoctrinate children into religion

Children become adults - and adults have the right to make up their own minds

If it is right to circumcise innocent children and indoctrinate them into the Islamic way of life - does that mean it is also right for fundamentalist Muslims to indoctrinate their children into their ultra-strict Islamic beliefs with an intolerance of other views

Leave the children alone and when they reach adulthood allow them to make their own INFORMED decisions X(

Male circumcision is not only islamic, at first it was a Jewish practice (and in Ancient Egypt also, and in other places). The most surprising is that in USA mot of christian boys are circumcised fir 'hygienic' reasons. In fact, a Biblical survey.

In Europe, I think it concerns only Muslims and Jews. It is less harmful than female circumcision, but it is a mutilation all the same (decreasing sexual sensation and then pleasure), while studies show that it protects against AIDS, and other sexual infection.

If Muslims and Jews should have waited their 18 to decide if they want to be circumcised, I wonder how many would chose it.

And I wonder if new converted Muslims, especially the new European Jihadists embracing ISIS had to be circumcised or not.

This is slightly off topic. Could either you recommend me an organization devoted to fighting against female genital mutilation, in Kurdistan, which I could donate to?

I think it's sad what's happened to Germany- I was born in Frankfurt to American parents. :D Historically it was a Christian nation but Christianity went out the window when the Kaiser was forced to abdicate after the the First World War- the Kaiser was a strong proponent of traditional [Protestant] Christianity and I'm pretty sure he'd be aghast at what Germany has become. :-?

Like many European countries - Germany and England both requited from outside their borders in order to rebuild their countries following WW2

England requited from the West Indies - some of the people who came here were like my friend Renee Webb who had actually come to England previously as a member of the RAF during the war

Sadly they did not think about the consequences of having a large influx of foreigners would have on the indigenous populations - health service - housing - education all failed - they were even thrown out of the Christian churches because they worshipped too loudly  not sure that God would have been very happy about that

Most of those who came to England were prepared to except low standards of accommodation because the money they were earning was far higher than they could have earnt in the West Indies - many left their children back home in the West Indies

All of them intended to return to their homes after a few years- but they started to have children in England - they then bought over the children they had left behind with grandparents when they came here

The education system could not cope and placed many black children in Educationally Sub Normal (ESN) schools - when they were closed black children were placed in CSE classes (low standard of education and exams) and the white indigenous population attended the same schools but studied for O-Level exams - the 2 tier education system went on for many years

One of the biggest problems that arose from sudden influx of West Indians was the fact that the 'Smallies' (people from the small islands) did not like Jamaicans - and visa versa (they like each other even less now) - they did not live in the same areas or socialise together - different food - different music - different cultural backgrounds - but the education system and youth services did not even seem to realise their were cultural differences

Were their similar problems between Turkish and Kurdish guest workers?

How did the indigenous population feel abut the guest workers?

Funny to see USA so fond of a Jewish-Muslim practice, though saint Paul was strongly opposed to spread it among new converts.

Most Muslims and Christians know very little about their own religions - they know only what the Clerics/Imams/Priests/Vicars tell them - which is normally only enough to exert control over the population

I do not approve of either male or female circumcision - these atrocious acts of mutilation are preformed on frightened under-age children often without their consent (especially in female circumcision) or any warning being given that these mutilations would in many cases lesson their enjoyment of sex - and in some cases put their lives in danger

Circumcision is barbaric and should be banned X(

BBC News Midlands

Female genital mutilation campaigners call for action

Experts say a growing numbers of girls in the Midlands are at risk of female genital mutilation (FGM) - also known as female circumcision.

One hospital in the region says 1% of all babies are born to women who have been cut.

The practice is cultural rather than religious and has no health benefits.

Campaigners say it's literally scarring women for life, both physically and psychologically.

BBC Midlands Today's Joan Cummins spoke to Det Con Gillian Squires from West Midlands Police, Virginia, who was subjected to FGM and her daughter Hannah.

My opinion remains exactly the same :D

But I wonder if anyone has undertaken another such survey in Germany with the influx of so many migrants since the original survey took place :-?

We should ask ourselves - is it any more right from Christian fundamentalists to indoctrinate their children into their religion and teach them to fire weapons at an extremely early age - than it is for Muslim fundamentalists to indoctrinate their children into their religion and teach them to fire weapons at an extremely early age

The religious indoctrination and circumcision of under age children is WRONG whichever religion the parents are and whichever sex the children are X(

There are many jews in Germany, currently. We can't imagine seriously Germany preventing Jews to circumcise their sons after Nazi extermination. The same for Kasher meat. So all these polls and statements are just empty threats against Muslims, but a Jewish presence in Europe protects them to anti-Abrahamic rituals Law. A paradox. :D

Some says it gives less pleasure because a lack of sensitiveness of a circumcised prepuce. So I don't think that male circumcision is a nice thing to do but nothing to compare with the butchery of female circumcision. A circumcised male has still pleasure in sex. Not most of circumcised women, for the clitoris has no use but orgasm.

May be some male Kurds here could say what they think about circumcision (if they remember and if it was painful) and if they did or would like to circumcise their sons.
