an 7 (Reuters) - At least 10 people were killed in a shooting at the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper firebombed in the past after publishing cartoons joking about Muslim leaders, French TV channel iTELE reported.

France Info radio also said police had confirmed a toll of 10 dead and five injured. Reuters had no immediate official confirmation of deaths.

The news channel quoted a witness as saying he saw the incident from a building nearby in the heart of the French capital.

"About a half an hour ago two black-hooded men entered the building with Kalashnikovs (guns)," Benoit Bringer told the station. "A few minutes later we heard lots of shots," he said, adding that the men were then seen fleeing the building.

A police official, Luc Poignant, said he was aware of one journalist dead and several injured, including three police officers.

"It's carnage," Poignant told BFM TV.

If this happened in England there would be a terrible backlash

In England most people do not like Muslims - I imagine it is the same in France - things will be a lot worse now on

It seems as though these assassins are not just Muslims but also Islamic State supporters

I strongly expect this to have a negative affect on the situation in Germany - which is already fraught with anti Islamic feelings

I am certain it will cause even more dislike of Muslims in England - if people were allowed to say the truth about how they feel 99% of English people (including the black population who come predominately from Christian countries) would say they HATE Muslims

Muslims themselves are partly to blame because they generally live and work in an all Muslim environment and their woman are kept isolated from the non-Islamic community - the only things most English people know about Muslims put them in a negative light

Even people who use the local taxi company - have changed from saying how polite and helpful the drivers are - into saying they want English drivers. If you wonder why it is because many miles away in the Midlands some Muslims have been involved in grooming innocent young white girls and using them for sex - a major scandal which has tarnish all Muslims with the same brush

Many French ppl have Muslim friends. We are not a segregated society, but extremists would like to encourage islamophobia.

But France is very very far from paranoiac fear of Muslims.

I doubt they will ever catch these killers - if anyone knows who they are would they be brave enough to inform on them NO not unless they have a death wish

Here most Muslims live in self imposed isolation - in recent years many Muslim areas in cities have become no-go areas for non-Muslims - the best Pakistani restaurants are in Pakistani areas

People fear what they do not know - if all they know about Muslims comes from the negative articles they see in the media it only increases that fear
