TOXIC SMOG ALERT: Pollution levels SOAR as BLOOD RAIN from Sahara hits UK this weekend
Levels of air pollution are forecast to become High in many areas of eastern and especially south eastern England where levels could reach Very High for a time. This is due to a combination of pollutants trapped near the ground, a light southeasterly flow bringing additional pollutants from the continent and, in addition, a small amount of Saharan dust in the air. Across the rest of the United Kingdom, levels of air pollution are expected to be mainly Moderate.

The smog levels, which will focus on the South East and the East of England are increased by a wave of Saharan red dust blasting in from the continent.
The weather phenomenon will leave cars and pavements stained a rusty brown while officials have issued health warnings to vulnerable people.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has urged people to “reduce physical exertion” as levels soar.
Asthma sufferers and those with other allergy-related conditions have been warned to keep medication to hand and not exercise outdoors.
Pollution will be ‘very high’ across a huge swathe of southern Britain with ‘moderate to high’ forecasts.
A Defra spokesman said: “Adults and children with lung problems, and adults with heart problems, should reduce strenuous physical exertion, particularly outdoors.
“People with asthma may find they need to use their reliever inhaler more often.
“Older people should also reduce physical exertion.”
