EU Commission threatens to sue countries refusing refugees

PostAuthor: Piling » Fri Feb 10, 2017 3:10 pm

Are we are Hitler ? No, we are Americans under Roosevelt refusing to welcome Jews fleeing Nazis in 40s :D

If only EU could have more powers… :ymsigh:

Commission threatens to sue countries that don’t take refugees

The EU warned today (8 February) that it will consider punishing member states next month if they fail to share the burden of asylum seekers stranded in Greece and Italy.

European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans criticised the bloc for having so far admitted only 12,000 of the 160,000 Syrian and other refugees required to be relocated from Greece and Italy to other EU countries by September this year.

He said Brussels still hoped “peer pressure” would convince recalcitrant countries, but that it would consider penalties if there had been no progress by the time its next report on the issue comes out in March.

“That is the right moment to consider other options if they are necessary,” Timmermans told a press conference.

“The Commission might start infraction procedures and we will certainly consider that.”

EU countries can be hit with large financial penalties by the commission, the executive arm of the 28-nation bloc, if they break the union’s rules.

Timmermans added that it was “highly unfair” to leave overstretched Greece and Italy to try to persuade other countries, particularly Eastern European states where there is resistance to Muslim immigration.

Countries like Hungary and Slovakia have proposed paying “solidarity” contributions instead of actually taking in any migrants.

But countries like France and Germany insist that no country can shirk its duty to admit a minimum number of refugees under the plan, which was pushed through in September 2015.

In a more upbeat note, Timmermans said member states had now admitted 14,000 refugees directly from camps in the Middle East, more than half way toward the goal of 22,000.

I have a problem with the entire refugee situation :-s

Definition of a refugee:

A person who flees to a foreign country
or power to escape danger or persecution

1) almost ALL the female refugees I have met are unhappy in the UK and wish they were back in their country of origin where they had
    a happy social life
    a family support network
    a large extended family locally
    frequent visitors from female friends
opportunity to met with groups of friends
friend bringing food round to share

2) female refugees in UK and elsewhere
have often lost relations in the fighting
    have lost friends and neighbours
    have lost their homes
have lost many of their valued possessions/photos
have lost the security of their community
are treated like cattle in badly run refugee camps
    separated from remaining friends/relations
    sent to assorted countries
    forced to learn new cultures
need to learn a new language
    live in almost total isolation

3) I strongly feel that instead of totally separating these unfortunate ladies and their families from their entire way of life. The money spent re-homing people should be spent on helping to make their countries of origin safe and helping the families to rebuild their homes and communities

4) Take a good look at Iraq. Rather than helping to solve the problems, the coalition's involvement is further dividing the Sunni and Shia communities :ymsigh:

5) Take a look at Syria. Rather than helping to solve the problems, the world is re-homing large sections of the population. Soon the only people remaining in Syria, will be members of the enormous assorted jihadist factions

6) Take a look at the so-called refugees. Many are young single men who have fled their country of origin purely because they did not wish to join the army. This is why UK has so many Turks living here. We have THOUSANDS of Turkish cowards here :ymsick:

7) male refugees are a great deal better off socially than their wives
they generally work (sometimes legally - often illegally)
they spend most of their free time with male counterparts
time is spent in men only coffee shops and social clubs
or visiting each other at their places of work

8) another problem with relocating large sections of population, is that many countries are stupid enough to take in people from both sides of a conflict. No prize in guessing what happens but suffice it to say they do not kiss and make up

9) why is it that the world has decided to prioritise the needs of those made homeless as a result of the recent conflict in Iraq and Syria, when there are people who have been living in slum refugee camps for more than 20 YEARS

10) how many houses could be built for the cost of one bomb?
