behdinan, lol however you spell it. i think behdini should be the language of the kurds, sorani,(no offence to any sorani's in here) has to much farsi, and cannot be understood by many non-sorani kurds. Plus all the Great Kurdish singer were Behdini!

On the question of if kurdish has arabic in it, it does, mabey even more then farsi. The main reason is that we have been living with them for countless years, excluding arabization. But this is not a bad thing, al languages of the middle east are related to oneanother, and share similar words.

If Kurdistan would be independent I could not imagine which language would be the official one. There are so many and everyone prefers its own language. I guess we would do it like Indians, English would be the official language and others would be additional. I heard that Gorani and Zazaki are not Kurdish languages but Indoiranian like Persian or Armenian.

Other Kurdish dialects/languages also Indo-Iranian...

We should make one standard Kurdish for official use; education, state, health-care etc. and everybody should speak his/her dialect... That is part of our culture...

Gradually the differences will fade - with time... We will become even more and more the same when we are all together...

Just look at the Kirmanckî (Zazakî) in Northern Kurdistan - sadly, many of them, because they are Elewî(Alevi) have married other Elewî Turks instead of Kurds - because religion is more important to them than nationality... So they lost their Kurdish culture and heritage...

Same goes for Kurmancî Kurds in Northern Kurdistan who married Turkish Sunnis instead of other Sunni Kurds...

Slowly they take more and more Turkish words into their language...

But we could reverse that - it's very simple actually... As soon as we can, like in Southern Kurdistan, we should make a High Kurdî - which would be made up of the most distinct Kurdish syntax and grammar from all the dialects...

So we take from Kurmancî, Soranî, Kirmanckî, Goranî, Lakî etc and make a new High Kurdî...

Nope... Let me explain;

Indo European is the whole of the tree...

The branch of the tree which Kurdish belongs to is called Indo-Iranian...


And I speak Kurmancî...

I can speak some Sorani, but I have an easier time understanding the Kurdi of Kermanshah, which I guess is Gorani, because it's closer to Parsi. I like Sorani much better though. It has more "umph" to it
