I didn't know our numbers were that close.

Some Indians even have Aryan names, such as Shirin, which happens to be my mother's name as well. :wink:

However, many Indians I meet say that we stole our names from them :roll:

I speak four fluently... Kurdish, English, Norwegian/Danish/Swedish (they're just dialects of eachother) and Turkish...

Comprehend most of Persian and German - and studying Hebrew this semester... While I will study Arabic next semester...

Best way to learn a language;

1) Watch TV in that language
2) When you have the chance, try conversing with a native of that language
3) Learn the written form (in e.g. the script/alphabet) of the language to enhance your vocabulary
4) When able to read the alphabet/script, read as often as you can

:) Good luck... PS. don't try learning a language you have no interest for!

Thanks for the information. :)

Do you know of some Kurdish movies with English subtitles? If so, what is the most reliable online Kurdish movie distributor?

I haven't checked wether it's online or not - but a newly started European [International] company is called Mîtosh Film... This one is realy good... And they do subtitles - and DVD's! :D

Try that one... If not on the net - you could find them elsewhere... They are based in Germany I think...

All their films are subtitled I think... :)

:lol: Sure we stole their names... Daha neler (as they say in Turkish) - "what else"...

Hindi and Urdu are somewhat "constructed" - or "syntetic" - not 100% naturally developed languages... Especially Urdu - which is 100% "Made up"... :) They borrowed a lot from Semittic and Aryan languages...

Persian and Kurdish are related languages which share roots...do you think Persians couldn't count and had to steal numbers from Kurds? But of course if that's what you've been brought up to believe, I wouldn't want to argue against you...

The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Welatêmîr - at least credit the person you take stuff from... :roll:

And at least present it correctly:

------------------
Kurmancî:

Kar = Work
Ker = Donkey
Kerr = Deaf
Kêr/Kartîx = Knife
Kîr = Dick

Soranî:

Kar = Work
Ker = Donkey
Kerr = Deaf
Kêr = Dick
Çeqûk = Knife
-----------------

:wink:

Oh darling - if you are gonna learn Kurdish phrases - in order to "get them right" in terms of how to pronounce, you have to learn the sounds in Kurdish... :) Otherwise you won't be able to sound like a Kurd...
