Grand Millennium #Sulaimaniyah, opens by end of 2013 as the most luxurious hotel in #Iraq and #Kurdistan

The 39-story tower has 196 guest rooms, 55 suites and special suites, 7 restaurants (including Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Lebanese and All day dining restaurant), besides a revolving restaurant at the top of the tower, several bars and lounges, and extensive sports and leisure facilities.

The property also has an auditorium accommodating 300 seats (6846 m2) and one ball room for 750 people (5378 m2). The whole project is located at the top of a hill-- about 50 meters above the street level-- overlooking the whole city of Sulaimaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan's second largest city.

The hotel is one of the many investments of the city's well-known resident Billionaire, Farouk Rasoul, who also has shares in AsiaCell, Iraq's largest telecommunications company. According to Bloomberg, Rasoul's wealth is worth at least $2.7 billion.

The entire project looks fantastic BUT I am not convinced on the wisdom of building the 2 skyscrapers - they might well be looked on as 2 targets by Islam extremists in Irag

First projects are: "Downtown Erbil", and "Residential towers".

Construction of "Downtown Erbil", in the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, is starting tomorrow. The multi-billion project is being built by the Dubai-based Emaar, the company behind Downtown Burj Khalifa.

It is a risk that I think Kurdistan wouild be unwise to take in light of the continued unrest and bombings in Iraq - only a few hours ago we learnt of yet another bombing in Bagdad:

Iraq suicide bombing hits Baghdad cafe in Shia Amil area - At least 37 people have been killed by a suicide bombing at a cafe in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad - and at least another 42 people were injured in the attack in the mainly Shia Amil district of the city

Militants frequently target cafes, markets, mosques and other places where people gather in large numbers.

Skyscrapers such as those 2 in the pictures will be places where people gather in large numbers
