One Syrian refugee killed and 2 injured in a fire in refugees camp in SulaimaniyahSulêmanî: A security official in Sulêmanî [Sulaimaniyah] province revealed on Wednesday, the death of one refugee and the injury of three others after a fire broke out at a Syrian refugees camp in the province. “A fire broke out today in a tent for Syrian refugees in Arbat camp killing one person and wounding two others who were taken to hospital for treatment,” The director of Arbad sub-district police, Param Atta said. He said that the initial investigations took place as it is likely that an electrical fault had caused the fire and the investigation is still ongoing to find out the real reasons for the accident. Hundreds protest in Khanaqin to convert the district to a provinceKhanaqin: Hundreds of Khanaqin district of Diyala province, demanded the central government to transfer their district to a province similar to the decision of the Council of Ministers Tuesday on approving to convert Tal Afar and Tuz Khurmato, Nineveh plain and Fallujah districts to provinces. 62% of Kurds believe KRG is unsuccessful in combating corruption Erbil: A recent poll suggests the public’s disillusion in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) ability to curb corruption. A majority claimed the KRG has not been successful in combating corruption. 3,000 participants from all parts of the region took part in the survey, which was carried out in December 2013 by the Kurdistan Institute for Political Affairs.
The survey addressed the question of corruption and the Kurdish government’s ability to deal with the problem. 62% believe that the KRG has been unsuccessful, 9% responded that the KRG has been successful and 28% believe they have been successful to some extent. 55% of the participants claimed that the KRG has been unsuccessful in controlling the market price while 36% saw the KRG as dealing successfully with the market price and 8% said very successful.
The survey also addressed the problem of social justice. 13% of the respondents believe the KRG has been very successful in tackling the issue, 43.37% responded that the KRG has been successful to some extent and 43.54% said the Kurdish government has not been successful when it comes to social justice. basnews.com

Gorran set to win Kurdistan Deputy Prime Minister post Erbil: Following September’s elections, the winning party Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) reassured Gorran that they would receive a governmental position in line with the result of the elections. This might result in the failure of Iran’s plan to maintain the role of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). After the KDP and PUK visits to Iran, Tehran expected the KDP to move according to the “strategic plan” between KDP and PUK; however the KDP has reassured Gorran that they will receive positions that are relevant to their successful results in the elections.
A source from within the delegation said that the KDP has said that Iran’s request to save the PUK’s role in Kurdistan’s politics will not be completely implemented in the interest of that party. The source also revealed that the KDP has decided to distribute posts according to the result of the election.
“The distribution of governmental positions should be done in a fair way which is according to the result of the elections because people have voted political parties and their votes should form the government cabinet,” High Official in Gorran Movement, Sheikh Jengi Sllayi said. Sallayi also pointed out that KDP has previously mentioned that the new cabinet of the government will be based on the multi-political parties according to the result of the election.
However, the Head of the Organization Centre of the PUK, Arif Rushdi stated that the governmental positions should be distributed based on the “Strategic Plan” between both KDP and PUK since the plan is part of the agreement between both parties. The comments by Nawroz Mohamed Amin, vice chairwoman of the Kurdistan Investment Board, came at a panel discussion in Erbil of Kurdish officials and a visiting delegation from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), which reported the remarks in a statement. “Kurdistan has adopted a new policy to encourage investment in certain sectors which has resulted in a massive investment development leading to USD 33 billion FDI,” the statement quoted Amin as saying.

Salahuddin province waves of a region to face Tuz Khurmato provinceSalahuddin: Salahuddin provincial Council announced on Wednesday, after an emergency meeting attended by the governor and officials of Tuz Khurmato, its rejection to convert to the latter to a province, pointing out that the choice of a region still remains. Salahuddin province, the first Iraqi provinces outside Kurdistan Region voted on a project to convert it to a province in 2011, but Iraqi authorities have aborted the project, claiming that the regions stipulated by the Iraqi constitution would divide the country.
