ANKARA,— Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) co-chair Asia Abdullah said that Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) was seeking good relations with Turkey.

Following the declaration of autonomous independence of three Kurdish regions in western Kurdistan [northern Syria], it has reportedly been announced that the Syrian Kurds are preparing to export their oil via Turkey, the world bulletin website reported.

Abdullah arrived in Turkey to attend in a Kurdish political conference in Ankara. Newly-established Turkey's Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) invited Abdullah to visit Turkey and attend in the party’s conference titled “Kurds Policy in New Era." on Sunday.

Asia Abdullah, one of the leaders of the Syrian Kurdish PYD party, has been reported to have have said that the PYD was in talks with Turkey's Foreign Ministry to discuss the export of oil, according to the daily Milliyet.

Although Abdullah said that the meetings between PYD chief Salih Muslim and Turkey regarding the issue are currently on hold, he reportedly said 'The more meetings there are the better. We see this as important for the future of Syria,' adding that they wanted to continue the dialogue process with Turkey.

Denying that the Syrian Kurds were after full independence, Abdullah added that two of the first three people in the first canton to declare autonomy,Jazeera [Cizire], were non-Kurds -with one being an Arab and the other being a Syriac.

Speaking to BBC Turkish, Abdullah also said that Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) was seeking Turkey's support, reassuring that Rojava is not and would not be an opposing power to Turkey.

Asia Abdullah attended on Tuesday the BDP’s group meeting at the Turkish Parliament in Ankara. PYD leader was welcomed with applause by the MPs upon his arrival at the hall before the group meeting started. Later, Abdullah and the Pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Co-chairperson Selahattin Demirtaş took their seats.

Kicking off the meeting, BDP Deputy Pervin Buldan said “Greetings to Rojova [Syrian Kurdistan] revolution,” referring to PYD leader’s visit which marks the first time in Parliament’s history.

The autonomic administrations launched in Syrian Kurdistan [Rojava] by Syria Kurds are good models for Syria political structure, said Asia Abdullah. According to DIHA news agency, Abdullah told a Kurdish conference in Ankara on Sunday that Syria Kurds have created autonomic administrations with the participation of Kurds, Arabs, Armenians and Assyrians and the model can be a great example for Syria.

Political structures based on religious, racial and cultural differences can solve the problem in Syria in a way all Syrian elements can participate in, she added.

Abdullah also noted Syria Kurds are fighting against assaults of diverse groups and they have paid a big cost to save their identity and existence, reminding that Syria government has neglected the rights and demands of Kurds in the past 50 years. She continued that her party believes Kurds were not invited to Geneva II conference while they should have been invited to the gathering that was to find a solution to Syria civil war.

I am not sure exactly what is going on - but I am sure that Western Kurdistan has not had time to negotiate any deals with the oil companies

I think that the PYD have approached Turkey because of it's willingness to do deals with South Kurdistan

Indeed a perfect and a common sense move like their brothers and sisters is SK. Kurds need Turkey and Turkey need Kurds and Kurd oil. Obviously they have to pay for it, it is not free. Turkey can not depend on Iraqi or Syrian Arab Sunnies because of the old feud. Arab Sunnies have an anciuent feud with Turkey because Ottoman Turks took over Islamic Khilafe from Arabs. So today Arab sunnies use Turkey because they don't have a choice, but tomorrow when they get on their feet they will turn against Turkey. Kurds have to exploit this.

If a new Syrian constitution allows Kurds to sell their own oil, that could be, but it is far from the case.

It is just a 'symbolic' gesture from PYD, or they just want to be KRG's copycat.

In Iraq we have Hussain shahrestany, who wants Kurds to compensate Iraq for selling their own oil. Now in Syria it seems we are going to have some one like Hussein Shahrestany. Poor Kurds, they become smugglers if they sell their own God given, property, oil.

There is no one in Syria nowadays, only fighters, or terrorists, or frightened civilians. I thought of 'Friends of Syria', UN, Russia, Iran, Arab League, etc.

In international laws, a State can not buy natural resources selling from an armed group which has no official legitimacy. In Iraq Kurds had to wait for 2005 to start a real autonomy. For the moment, Syria (and W. Kurdistan also) is just a battlefield with black economy.Turkey would never put its little finger in that snake' nest.

What Syrian constitution? If Turkey recognizes the outonoumpus region, then it will possible.

Please come down to the real world. No one, especially International law legislators, care about International Laws when there is conflicts of interest, their interest comes before the law, the same law they legislated. We are not talking about Syria, we are talking about West Kurdistan, which is different from the rest of Syria. West Kurdistan has developed all fundamentals of a modern state and a modern state has legal powers by the nature of its modern authority. If they export oil to Turkey they will not harm any one and no one can find any ground to object to it. Actually it will be a bless if a country raises objections because it causes a huge publicity to WK.

The only allies Turkey has in the region are the Kurds in SK, and it would be stupid if did not also embrace the Kurds in WK the same way. And like kak Londoner also said, the current gov needs PKK to survive. Not to mention the resentment shared by Arabs against the historical ottoman rule, and the current regional power struggle of the Sunni world . Sure Turkey would rather have the FSA or Arab opposition that it control instead of Kurds, but that's not possible.

Good find heval and I believe this is the main reason for the conflict in Syria .As far as I know KSA and Qatar had the same plan to export oil via Syria to European market with new pipe line ,but the plan was met with strong objection by Tukey and Russia which are currently the main suppliers of oil to the European market .

As for PYD exporting oil via Tukey ,I do not believe they can without any legitimacy .Declaring autonomy or even independence means nothing in the time of war and with out any international support is like convincing yourself that you are free while still in the cell , a good feeling ,yes ,but not true even if you believe it . They certainly can smuggle the oil and sell it in the black market ,but a pipe line will just give them too much power which no one wants considering their strong ties with PKK .

Hello heval, I agree with above regarding supplying the EU with oil, and would like to add that the worry is if the shipping out of the Gulf is interrupted from war. KSA built a pipeline to the Red Sea.

I agree that most of it will be smuggled by land at first, like SK. But eventually they can easily link it with the network of pipelines in SK or NK, where Turkey can then deliver safely to the Med. And that is highly plausible, considering that the Syrian coast is strictly controlled by the Assad regime, and because of that, the oil revenues need to be allocated to all Syrians fairly and properly. And the Kurdish region has suffered from thievery and neglect, and also forced arabization and deportations for 100 years. So the rest of the country will have to pay for the losses at first. Lets not forget that WK is also the bread basket of Syria (and the region), so the Syrians have also been stealing food and water from Kurdish soil not to mention the cheap Kurdish labor all these years.
