One of the three cantons in West Kurdistan, Cizîre (Jazeera) Canton, has launched a diplomatic offensive. The canton's Foreign Minister and an accompanying delegation are on an official visit to South Kurdistan. The delegation comprises Foreign Minister Salih Gedo, assistants Emine Ose and Şemiran Şamul and advisors Fadıl Misa and Polat Can. Cizîre Canton declared autonomy on 21 January and has three official languages.
The delegation arrived at the Titanic hotel in Suleymaniyah on the evening of 11 February. It was met by a group including Xarip Hisso from the West Kurdistan Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) and Sulaymaniyah representative of the Left Democratic Party of Syria, Fetullah Huseyni.
It is reported that this first foreign visit by the Foreign Minister of the Cizîre Canton is taking place on the invitation of parties and movements in South Kurdistan that support the democratic autonomous administrations. The delegation is expected to have a series of meetings during its week-long visit, talking to political parties, and depending on conditions may also visit Hewler (Erbil).
After meeting the PUK's Public Relations representatives
Mahmut Haci Salih, Xalid Xıdır Ali and Ömer Haci Ahmet on Tuesday evening, it is reported that the first destination for the delegation today is the PUK's political office.
