Al-Qamishli: Presidential elections also to take place in PYD-controlled regions
KURDWATCH, June 2, 2014—In an interview with the Syrian TV-station Sama, Akram Hiso, chairman of the executive council of the transitional administration in the canton of Jazirah which was appointed by the Democratic Union Party (PYD), indicated that presidential elections will also take place in PYD-controlled regions: »All Syrians have the right to exercise these activities [to vote]. We had hoped that all sides would be in agreement before elections take place.« Speaking to the same TV-station, his deputy, Husayn Aʿzam, described the presidential elections as a democratic act; every citizen had »the right to exercise his right to vote«. By contrast on May 25, 2014, the chairman of the PYD, Salih Muslim, stated to the Arab newspaper al‑Hayat that there would be no polling places in the Kurdish regions. According to Muslim, the regime has no presence there and there would be no one who could protect the polling places. At best, he said, it would be possible for the regime to set up polling places in the city of al‑Hasakah and in several of the government-controlled Arab districts in al‑Qamishli as well as at the airport there.

They do NOT call it "Rojave Kurdistan" they have dropped the Kurdistan - they call it "Rojave" which makes it sound as though it has nothing to do with Kurdistan

The majority of Kurds live either in Damascus or on small farms

Salih Muslim has done more to divide Kurds than unite them - and has put those living outside the stupid little cantons are far greater risk than they every were before

Many of the Kurds that the ISIS jihadists have not managed to kill - life in fear of the PKK

The fighting in Western Kurdistan has increased considerably over the past few days

Kurdwatch is just propaganda, you guys know that right? It is probably run by pro-FSA pro- AKP guys.

Anyways, no, there was no election in Rojava. The voting ballots were confisciated by YPG and the votes were destroyed. Salih Muslim has said numerous times that there will be no election in Rojava. Most Kurds did not vote anyways.

Hawar News is a PYD news agency

I have yet to find a totally unbiased news site

Salih Muslim has NO right to prevent people from voting - he is in danger of becoming another Hitler

Many people were deterred from voting by Salih - that was wrong - for too many years Kurds in Syria have been suppressed

As for the YPG confiscating the ballot boxes - that shows a shocking and disgusting lack of respect for all those who were brave enough to vote

It is starting to look as though Kurds have just replaced one bully Assad - with another bully in Salih Muslim X(

You should be banned for personally insulting a Kurdish leader and all those who have fought and died for Rojava (WK). Those little Cantons you keep insulting are not only the best run areas of all of that fake country you are defending ( Syria and Assad's regime), but also more honorable and noble, who are more brave and competent leaders than both of your nations (UK and India) put together.

The YPG are fighting ISIS, the worst of the worst terrorists in the world. If it wasn't for the YPG and Ekrad, the army of Kurds of Rojava & al Sham , then they would of already set up an ISIS Emirate to come after your yellow belly relatives next, that's why you should be licking Serok Salih Muslims feet!

How dare insult him at a time of war, and now even his other son (and a son martyred) was just recently injured and his daughter is currently fighting.

If there is false propaganda, it comes fro PYD itself then.

While Salim Mulsim says :

By contrast on May 25, 2014, the chairman of the PYD, Salih Muslim, stated to the Arab newspaper al‑Hayat that there would be no polling places in the Kurdish regions.

In fact during one month before the polls, there were many contradictory statements from PYD or from PKK concerning these elections. They were quite embarrassed to admit that they could/would not prevent it in the place where Baath forces were still present in Hassake, and also all State workers in Rojava are still paid by Syria, so we could suppose that they have not choice.

In some parts, YPG prevent it, in other they let it. They have themselves call to a boycott but they are not in a position to oppose by force with Syrian Army in their 'cantons'

@ Shirko

A leader unites Salih Muslims has divided

Perhaps you have never heard the phrase "United we stand divided we fall"

My knowledge of Western Kurdistan - my connections to Western Kurdistan - my friends from Western Kurdistan - my friends still in Western Kurdistan - all go back well over 20 years

I have lost friends in the fighting - in fact one of my closest friends disappeared during the fighting there about a year ago

As you know, not all of Qamishlo and Hesice is controlled by PYD. In some places there are majority Arabs and this is also where the Baaths are present. Those are the regions where PYD says it will ''allow'' elections. But their official statements have always been there would be no election within the cantons and within the Kurdish controlled areas - which is also what the end result shows us... That the votes were burned ( possibly votes by Arabs either ways). What the Arabs and the Baathists do in their areas is none of Kurds business. The important thing is that Assad has no legitimicy in the Kurdish areas thus we had the right and the honour to turn down his election.

Funny how two non Kurd imperalists ( one a frenchman another a half indian half englih) are speaking as if they know so much about Kurdistan. Quite frankly, this thread just shows that you know nothing. I would encourage all REAL Kurds on this site to stop posting on this God forsaken forum until proper measures are taken against the imperalist demonizers and their propaganda war against Kurds. Let the imperalist delusional individuals reply to each other. But do not reply to them yourselves. They are not Kurds and their only goal is to demonize our freedom struggle by acting as if they know so much.

So you honestly think that it is right and proper to refuse to allow part of the Kurdish population the right to vote if they so wished

It should be up to the people themselves to decide NOT a group of bullies with guns X(

Heval, to willingly stop posting and defending yourself and beliefs, is like surrendering or giving up in any confrontation (a forum or real like situation). Unless you are un-able to incapacitated and unable , in a forum its being banned or losing Internet connection :), in real life it's called dying, or being arrested or bribed somehow.

It's like we are cursed to have odds against us, but we prevail in the end. Even in the Internet we face the same types of biased laws and governments. On Internet social media we face the same adversaries, with the same types of biased of attitudes and administrator and moderators. And look at what they can do, Turkey even shut down twitter and YouTube, so don't believe them when they say its just the net and not real life, this is real life also.
