Russia has destroyed 93 percent of its chemical weapons stockpile, Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ahmet Uzumcu said on Tuesday.
The efforts were made in the framework of the Convention on the prohibition of the development and use of chemical weapons.
Moscow is fully implementing its commitments on the destruction of chemical weapons, and OPCW expects the program to be completed in Russia in coming years, Uzumcu said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
Lavrov also plans to discuss with the OPCW head Russia’s initiative on combating chemical terrorism.
