Moscow calls for the inclusion of Kurds in the
August round of Syrian peace talks in Geneva

Reporting by: Wladimir van Wilgenburg

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov on Thursday stressed the importance of the inclusion of Kurds in the UN-led intra-Syrian peace talks in Geneva.

This comes after the UN’s special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said that he aims to start the next round of intra-Syrian talks before the end of August.

On July 26-27, Geneva hosted Russia-US-UN consultations on Syria. Russia was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov who suggested Kurds should be included in the talks.

“The Russian spokesman said the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic has already agreed to take part in the talks and emphasised the importance of an inclusive delegation from the Syrian opposition, which should include Kurdish representatives as well as all other opponents of official Damascus that take a constructive approach and seek a comprehensive political settlement of the Syrian crisis,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a press release.

Gatilov emphasised the need to launch a dialogue among Syrians as soon as possible without any preconditions.

In turn, Staffan de Mistura suggested late August as a tentative time for convening the next round of talks.

Speaking to ARA News, the Kurdish defence head of the Cezire canton, Rezan Gullo, said that the Syrian Kurds have relations with both Russia and the United States.

“We have relations with both Russia and the US in our fight against ISIS [Islamic State group] and Nusra [al-Qaeda branch in Syria],” the Kurdish official said.

BIG OR

Russia keeps asking for Kurds to be included in the peace talks but US (that now thinks it is GOD) blocked Kurds joining in previous peace talks

Because the 2 main groups fighting are ISIS and Kurds - I would suggest that both groups need to take part in the peace talks

What is the point of having peace talks if neither of the 2 main groups involved are allowed to participate

There is a great deal of misinformation coming out of the Middle East

Many of the media outlets do not have representatives in the conflict areas and their information is often gained from unreliable sources

Other media sources send a reporter to an area of conflict just so that he can get off the plane - or out of his safe bomb-proof car - and show that he is actually reporting form the ground

The reporter will swiftly rush away to somewhere safer, often without actually talking to many, if any, of the local population

I always follow Wladimir van Wilgenburg

Wladimir spends long hours/days in areas of conflict - often with bombs still dropping around him (surprised he has survived so long - hope he continues to report in safety) - he is the ONLY person who actually knows and publishes the TRUTH

RT are also an excellent source of reliable information

Reuters are good

BBC quick off the mark but not always reliable
