Minister: Exxon Mobil still operating in Kurdistan

ERBIL, May 26 (AKnews)- The US Exxon Mobil Corporation is still operating in the Kurdistan Region oil fields, said Kurdistan minister for natural resources.

Ashti HawramiAshti Hawrami's statement came in response to a remark by Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul-Kareem al-Luaibi who told Arabic Sabah newspaper today that the US company has suspended its work in Kurdistan fields until the issues between Erbil and Baghdad are over.

"Exxon Mobil in no way has suspended its work in Kurdistan" , Hawrami said, criticizing Baghdad officials for repeating such media statements while the company is still operating in the region.

Exxon Mobil signed six oil contracts last year with Kurdistan. The contracts led to a strong opposition from Baghdad which deems Kurdistan is not authorized to sign contracts for its oil.

There are 4 oil refineries operating in Kurdistan they are; Khabat (Erbil) , Bazian (Sulaimani) , Kat (Kirkuk) and Zaxo (Zaxo) and talks are ongoing to build a 5th one in Kirkuk (prdê). The capacity of refining oil at the three refineries reach up to 65,000 - 100,000 bpd.

with regards to topping plants in kurdistan. there's actually 70 small ones operating.

but these are really useless in the long run, they have to be replaced by one large grass roots refinery specialised in heavier crudes which are not easy to export.

The trade is supported by an estimated 70 mini-refineries, known in the industry as topping plants, said the Kurdistan region’s oil minister, Ashti Hawrami. They are dotted around the Kurdistan region and Kurdish-controlled areas in nearby Kirkuk and Nineveh Province, he said, and many of them are unlicensed.

that dates back to 2010 ,its 2012 and the growth rate of economy is too high for 2 years time , since then 4 medium-large refineries have been built , but it is still not enuff to fit local demands as the rate of cars imported raise dramatically hence more will be constructed as Ashti Hawrami said few days ago.

no. the plants you showed are simple topping plants. there's no "true" refinery in Kurdistan yet, and I haven't seen a plan for building one. THough I presume right now the main focus is on increasing production and export routes. Eventually they would have to build a large grass roots refinery. its inevitable.

the difference between a topping plant and a "refinery" is that the refinery refines a whole RANGE of products and has things like Fluid catalytic Crackers, catalytic reformers, dimerization units etc... a topping plant is basically just "step 1" of refining (an atmospheric distilation unit).

see below for an explanation.

Kurdistan does not need to refine a whole range of products as it doesnt "need" it all hence these refineries are built , kurdistan only needs oil for petrol and ethanol and so on , the rest of the stuff left over from the refining process is exported via trucks at the moment but soon to change via own Kurdistan pipelines. but the refineries are not enuff as Hawrami said , another one is u/c and apparently oil will be also sent to turkey via trucks refined and brought back since iraq has cut the oil kurdistan was getting from iraq- beji refinery .

Kurdistan oil pipeline under construction

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sun May 27, 2012 1:56 pm

So according to a source from Iraq oil ministry the independent oil pipeline Kurdistan is building at the moment consist of the following oil fields : Taq Taq , Khurmala and Fish Khabur.

The pipelines will connect all three oil fields and will export oil directly via Kurdistan soil to turkey then to the international market.

Al Shahristani must be boiling right now  The only treath they have left is cutting budget and not sending petroproduct. That will become useless in about one years time before al tikriti gets his jets. Besides they cant even control bagdad and the moment they attack kurdistan they will get couped out of power. Americans wont tolerate attacks against kurdistan either since the whole region is on brink of war.

good news on the pipeline! but still no details about its capacity. that would tell us how much Kurdistan plans to produce.

i also disagree about Kurdistan not needing a grass roots refinery. It is ESSENTIAL to build one! I think building topping plants is just counter productive.

2m barrels by 2019. Even 180 000 - 400 000 barrels next year would be more then enough

Nechirvan: a drop of oil not exported from Kurdistan

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Tue May 29, 2012 6:03 am

28-05-2012

Nechirvan Barzani KRG prime minister said Monday that not even a drop of oil has been exported from Kurdistan and that Baghdad should send 17% of refined oil to Kurdistan Region.

The central government accused KRG of smuggling crude oil to the neighboring countries without regarding to Baghdad.

Speaking to the press in a receiving burial ceremony of 730 remains in Sulaimani Police College, he said, “The central government should not think about stepping up pressure on Kurdistan by cutting the region’s refined oil share at 17%.”

“KRG is ready to form a committee to look into allegedly smuggling oil,” he said.

The Kurdistan-Baghdad relations took a nasty turn over the past few months when both sides accused each other of exporting and stealing oil.

Of course we are going to smuggle oil, until the pipeline is built. Screw bagdad and their allegation, they play angels when they piss on the consitution. Their only goal is to undermine our autonomy and taking orders from iran.

Just wait for the Iranian uprising like Syria then EK like WK will be free of mullahs and shabiha and the unification of all 3 parts will be possible , it's why turkey is preparing a constitution to save her ass by not losing NK but they won't hold against 3 Kurdish entities to their south

You guys do realise that Maliki and co take a "cut" of the Kurdish oil shipments. The "noise" in the media is just hot air.

Of course we know, since the tankers also pass terrtory controlled by bagdad. Its just dishonest and cheap shot to go out in media with this. They want the public to bekevie that kurds are thieves and that they are angels. Atleast one kurdish mp hit back with bagdad smuggling oil to israel  That probably hit them in the nutsacks :D
