Boston: bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicted

PostAuthor: Anthea » Mon Apr 15, 2013 8:04 pm

BBC News

Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon race have left an unknown number of people injured.

Video and photographs from Boston show a scene of confusion, with emergency services descending on the scene and bloodied spectators being taken to a medical tent.

"There are a lot of people down," said one runner quoted by AP news agency.

The incident reportedly came about three hours after the winners crossed the line.

AP said there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the bridge that marks the finish line. Another loud explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

Smoke rose from the blasts, fluttering through the national flags lining the route of the world's oldest and most prestigious marathon. TV helicopter footage showed blood staining the pavement in the popular shopping and tourist area known as the Back Bay.

"There was an explosion, police, fire and EMS are on the scene. We have no indication of how many people are injured," spokeswoman for the Boston Police Department said.

Mike Mitchell of Vancouver, Canada, a runner who had finished the race said he was looking back at the finish line and saw a "massive explosion."

Smoke rose 50ft (15m) in the air, he told Reuters news agency, and people began running away and screaming after hearing the noise.

"Everybody freaked out," he said.

Stragglers heading for the finish line were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts as the scene was locked down.

The Eastern Massachusetts branch of the Red Cross has set up a disaster response centre in the area.

The Boston Marathon is one of the biggest annual athletic events in the United States, attracting a large field of runners and tens of thousands of spectators.

Why would anyone want to bomb a Marathon

The explosions took place when the main group of runners were passing the finishing line.

People from all over the world were taking part, many raising money for charities :-o

Three people have been killed and more than 100 injured, some seriously, in two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, police say.

I still cannot understand who would do this.

The marathon is multi cultural, people from all races and all countries take part.

There is no political gain from targeting charity runners :-o

Why would anyone want to bomb a Marathon

It has a logic : the dame day, 50 dead and 300 wounded people in Iraq. Not much noise in the world.

But attacking one of the center of the world is a great profit for a few and easy job. No need to have much victims.

Brilliant idea :D

Could you compile a list of how many people died in places like Syria, Iraq and a few more countries, on the same day :ymdevil:

The same day in Iraq, some terrorist attacks made 61 dead and 274 wounded people. For Syria I don't know the whole number, but, for example, on April 14th Syrian Air Force bombed a Kurdish village (16 dead, 2 children), in Qabun (a district of Damascus), another plane killed 9 children ; in Aleppo 15 persons was killed by a bomb car (suicide attack), and in April 15th, violences did not stop : perhaps 40 dead civilians.

In Somalia, the same day, terrorism killed 34 persons, etc. :D

That is the unfair and unequal importance of victims.

Muslim Brotherhood leader links Boston bombing to Mideast ev

PostAuthor: Aslan » Tue Apr 16, 2013 8:07 pm

Essam el-Erian a senior leader of the Egyptian Brotherhood condemned the Boston bombing but went on to illustrate what he sees as its linkage to other world events.
In a post on the senior Brotherhood leaders Facebook page he reaffirmed his parties line, that being one that condemns the heinous terrorist attack. But he went on to say that it was connected with among other things, the French military campaign against Islamist rebels in Mali, the Syrian Civil War and the faltering peace talks between the Turkish government and Kurdish separatists. (Yahoo! News, April 16 2013)
"Our sympathy with the families of the victims, and the American people do not stop us from reading into the grave incident. This series of events began with the sending of French battalions to Mali in a war against organizations that are said to belong to Al-Qaeda," he wrote on his Facebook page.
Whilst the Middle East is a region where everything is conspicuously linked the manner in which the senior Brotherhood leader links the Boston Marathon bombing to both Mali and Syria is quite outlandish.
His full statement was as follows:
The criminal acts in Boston, which killed three and wounded 244, comes in the context of reproducing an old case that will not return and not produce negative effects on Islam and Muslims.
Our sympathy with the families of the victims, and the American people do not stop us from reading into the grave incident.
This series of events began with the sending of French battalions to Mali in a war against organizations that are said to belong to Al-Qaeda.
Bombings intensified in Syria in a suspicious manner that deviated from the path of the great Syrian revolution, and smear campaigns began.
Violent explosions returned, rearing their ugly heads again in Iraq, targeting peaceful movements aiming for needed reform.
After a reasonable calm in Somalia, the capital Mogadishu shook again, leading to lowered confidence in the new president and government.
The historic agreement, which ended the fiercest regional conflict, between Erdogan and the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is faltering.
A question that forces itself: Who disturbed democratic transformations, despite the difficult transition from despotism, corruption, poverty, hatred, and intolerance to freedom, justice tolerance, development, human dignity, and social justice?
Who planted Islamophobia through research, the press, and the media?
Who funded the violence?
The march of the Arab peoples will continue, and the will of right, justice, and dignity will triumph, and Syria will triumph to democratic transition movements with the permission of the victorious One God Almighty, who cannot be rendered incapable. (Muslim Brotherhood in English, April 16 2013)

It is not connected to the French military campaign against Islamist rebels in Mali. France has some fantastic ancient buildings and sites, plus one end of the channel tunnel, nobody protesting France's involvement in Mali would blow up charity runners in America :-o

The historic agreement, which ended the fiercest regional conflict, between Erdogan and the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is faltering.

I have no idea why people keep calling it an historic agreement when it is just one in a long list of cease-fires

It is a one-sided cease-fire anyway because the Turkish military is still attacking Kurds X(

The bombs did not prevent the race from being run, it was aimed at the charity runners. That is the part I do not understand :-?

I remember a few months ago, Muslims were complaining about Muslim female runners who had their bodies uncovered. I will try to find the article.

At the end suspects are identified, one is already dead, the other will be caught soon.

2 young Chechens, or from Daghestan (I don;t know how many ethnies there are in the area :

I wonder why they hit USA and not Russia, even if Western Powers had done nothing to stop Putin in Chechnya (but could they do something ? Russia is not Mali).

It would appear that the brothers were in Turkey for a time :-?

Nobody knows for sure :-\

It also appears that the brothers have lived in America for 12 years

I would hate to be their parents :(

Anthea, try not to have too much fun yet, just because they might be muslims. This doesnt make any sense, why would Chechnyans do this? Unless it is a Qaeda connection. It might be a Russian plot to get an excuse to attack them again.

I am watching reports live online. None of it makes sense to me.

If the attack was planned, why would they rob a seven eleven shop? Surely they would have made some plans :-?

This is a 19 year old youth not a hardened criminal. He is not much more than a child :((

Are these brothers just scapegoats. Is America just trying to stir up anti-Muslim feelings, I would not put it past them.

I do not think that this young man will not be captured alive, so we will NEVER know the REAL truth.
